Why Stanford dorm?

If I want an all frosh dorm, with a single sex floor, what are the chances of getting that?

Which freshman dorms have single sex floors?

from what I've heard, very high if you put it as first priority (most ppl ask for non single-sex, i guess...)

That was also my first preference (all freshmen, single-sex floor), but I was placed on a co-ed floor in a 4-class dorm and I love it.

Unless you have a solid reason for why you want what you want, I would advise that you keep your options open!

Are you in SLE? If you're in SLE that makes things more complicated since there are only three dorms for SLE.

Usually they do a pretty good job of matching people up with their first choices, and they are thinking about adding more freshman dorms and converting old four-class dorms to just upperclassmen dorms, so it may be even more likely in the future. Single sex is usually less desirable, so it's often easier to get that (probably even moreso if you're male).

How does dorm selection work? Is it first-come first-serve? Or does everyone fill out the dorm selection sheet on the same day?

Everyone fills it out and it doesn't matter when you send it in as long as it's by the deadline. I'm not sure how they figure out who gets which dorm. They probably try to meet as many requests as possible, but I'm not sure how they choose who ends up well. I do know they try to make the dorms as diverse as possible. Aside from asking to live in FroSoCo and SLE or saying you have a disability, you can't really control which dorm you'll end up in at all.

Wilbur Freshman Dorms:

Otero has what is known as a Manwich.
That's a mens floor sandwiched by two floors of women.

Junipero, 2 single sex floor, 1 mixed floor.

Cedro, 2 single sex floor, 1 mixed floor.

Rinconada, 2 single sex floor, 1 mixed floor.

Maybe someone can double check this to make sure I haven't made a mistake.

As you can tell, there are plenty of single sex floors. If this is what you ask for, it is highly likely that you will get this. You would be unlucky to to, given the number of single sex floors for double rooms.

so if i wanted to get into Casa Zapata, theres nothing i can do until the deadline?

you can't request a specific dorm. you can only rank the types of the dorms in order of preference.

I believe you can request an ethnic theme dorm, though; there might be a short essay involved.

Wait, what if you wanted an all freshman dorm, like lets say Branner for instance? :) You can't request Branner but you can say all freshman and coed and just hope to be put in Branner?

I jusy hope im accepted so i can choose :D

which Frosh dorm has the most parties/social scene/sports and all that.

It all depends. Since frosh dorms have 100% (excluding RF's and any returning staff) turnover every year, there's really no way to predict. Branner has a reputation for being extremely social, mainly because it's so big. But you can't choose your dorm. I suggest you choose what style of dorm (frosh vs. upperclass and single-sex vs. coed) based on what you actually want, not based on what dorm you're trying to get.
