In your why essays, especially for Stanford, is it okay to really focus it on academics/research type stuff? I want to go into business so I spent a good chunk of my essay talking about hardcore specifics of business related programs that I want to pursue at Stanford. But i made sure these were REALLY specific to stanford. But I also did include extracurricular stuff like dance.
I am just wondering does it look bad to have such a "definite path" already? Like is it bad that I am so businessy/academic in my essay? Also my essay kind of has that "i will do that research thing" and "i am eager to join this at stanford"....is that okay? I was thinking that creativity could be put in my other essays and that this one could be as hardcore/straightforward as possible.

Any thoughts would be so appreciated!!!!!
Thanks!

I face the same problem as you too. Mine was pretty straightforwad, and boring I guess. I read a few samples here, and it’s way too general. I was like you. I talked about research and named a few research but generally I see essays that only talk about something like Good place, good faculty.

i was told a a big part of these “why go here” essays should talk about what you would contribute to the college along with what you will gain, keep that i mind. otherwise i think they’d like to know that you really did do research on this school.

I heard a rather unimpressive Stanford Adcom answer a question on the Why Stanford? essay and she said that they definitely dont want to hear about how beautiful California is and how you love palm trees. She said that they want to know that you have done your research about Stanford and like what you have learned so I feel in your case the more information about what you plan to do at Stanford you have the better though, of course, it doesn’t hurt to balance it out with some events and activities they offer.
