i don't know...i keep getting this sense of regret. thanks jason, can we talk on aim sometime?

IM me anytime. I'm a crazy advocate of UCD, but I'm attending UCI.

Guys, all you have to do to see whether UCI or UCD is better, just look at US News rankings: UCI is ranked above UCD and only below Cal, LA, and SD.

Yeah but then you'll get people *****ing about how UCD was ranked lower because of an error. ;)

Error??? That BS..UCI is better, preiod.

haha. It is true though. It doesn't really matter. UCI and UCD would've just been closer. They are already close as is...

UCI AND UCD ARE BOTH GREAT SCHOOLS. Getting into any UC is wonderful news. Let's try to not downplay them.

UCI was above Davis back in the late 1990s, then an error made UCI drop below them. So it's almost fitting that a Davis error put the schools back to where they should have been.

Even taking the error into account, davis would still be below irvine. In any case, academically, the schools seem to be extremely close, except for Davis having quite an ag leaning. The real difference is in atmosphere.

Davis is a pretty chill town, but it's also just really quiet. In fact, I read somewhere that it's quite famous for it's rediculously strict sound ordinances. My friend also got written up in the dorms once for talking with the door open after quiet hours, no joke.

I've only been to Irvine a couple times, so I can't really comment on the atmosphere there, but it seems like an amicable enough place.

And also, based off of what I've seen on these boards, norcal people tend to consider Davis higher than Irvine, and socal people Irvine over Davis. Not really all that surprising. Neither school is really all that huge, reputation wise, so the only people to really think much of it are going to be local. Personally, I had never even heard of Davis (or Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara, for that matter) until I started applying to colleges in high school. So, I don't think it's so much that Irvine has a "bad" rep as it is it just doesn't have ANY rep for most people.

I agree Darth Fuji. It's all about the environment. Sure, there are rankings available, but they are close as is. People take a few numbers way too seriously on the forums. I don't exactly enjoy reading people saying "UCI is better than UCD," and specifically saying it is because of the rankings (I know there has been an error). Like I said, they are close so it doesn't matter! Discussing between UCI and MIT would be a true difference =].

when do the new rankings come out anyways?

yea its definatly a regional biased. california is so huge there is definatly a barrier between north cal and south cal. in south cal i say irvine is the decent school, smack dab in the middle, it's like you didn't make it into a fantastic school but it would still wow all your local relitives haha i say that's probobly the case for davis in north cal. there acceptance rates are 60 and 61 percent...quite similar lol im suprised that ucsb acceptance rate is 53 percent, seems pretty ok but its just not very popular in the so cal region i guess.

haha seeing uci and mit in the same sentence is funny. kekekeke

tacobell,

The selection of a college is to find the best fit for each particular person, not for the "prestige" or other people's opinions.

My daughter got accepted to CAL, UCLA, UCSD, and UCD, but decided to go to UCI. We live in the Bay Area.

SunnySky: what does she plan on studying? What made UCI the most attractive option?

I got into Cal too and decided to come to UCI. I'm also from Norcal (more central valley). I agree with SunnySky.

Why, because the sports suck at UCI, that's why.

leobag,

She went to the Honors Experience Day and liked it. She plans to major in Biology.

Hmm...

Isn't UCI OK in sports? Isn't UCI in division I? Doesn't UCI have an OK/decent basketball team?

Jas0n,

Yes, UCI is pretty decent in sports, division 1 and has a decent basketball team....heck they beat Stanford in the fall.

Baseball was cut in 1992, but the students voted it back in and also a new ballpark.
But, they don't have a football team.
