why this college essay ?

so for the univ of chicago they let us write 1-2 PAGES on why we want to go to that school…

but for other schools, they are giving us only 150-200 words… i only have 1 college left… where do i start?

What is the question? Why does UChicago give you more space to write? You should be able to write at least one page about why you like the school you are applying to. If you can’t, I would say it is not worth applying at all.

Is that one college UChicago or one with a smaller word limit?

For longer essays, you have room to discuss all of the main things that interest you about the school and elaborate on them. The goal is to write about yourself. Why is the way they teach important to you? What from your past experiences has given you an idea about how you learn best? Why is the fact that they have an EC you did in high school meaningful to you? What about it makes you want to continue? You want to show them that you’re a good fit for their school and that you’ll contribute to it. Your goal isn’t to give a laundry list of things or to resort to writing about “the amazing facilities” and “prestige.” Don’t feel pressured to use up the whole two pages.

Shorter essays work the same way, except that you have to pick fewer reasons and elaborate on them less.

my bad guys! should have clarified! @manspeak2u @onmyway2013

it’s the other way around…

univ of chicago gives me ENOUGH room to say WHY i want to go…

notre dame says in 150-200 words say WHY do you want to go here. but i feel 150-200 words is WAAAYY to little… so where do i start from and really hamper on why i want to go there?

that’s basically like a twitter status…

Pick the top 2-3 reasons, or 2-3 “themes,” like “JHU values shaping its students into better thinkers. I value this because X, Y, Z. This is apparent at Hopkins through faculty’s willingness to have students participate in research; its interdisciplinary programs such as the Center for Africana Studies and departments for Cognitive Science and Behavioral Biology; and its lack of gen-ed courses, which allows students to shape their own education.”

You don’t have to say everything, just give a solid answer.

so basically i talk about ONE aspect of the school and THEN discuss 3 subsections of it ?
