Wahoocavilier, Good luck in your college search! I hope that you will go to the college of your choice, whether it is UVA or Harvard.

Krazykamikaze, enjoy your Six Flags trip this Saturday!

Have fun, thanks for everyone's opinons-they are eye opening

bump bump bump

I apologise for the tardiness of my reply to your mail in which you mentioned, "To Shubham: I know the point. I'm just tired of 9th graders asking about the college process and people being so obsessed. I know what you mean, I want to go to a great college because i've worked hard for four years, but my point is that I will end up at college where I end up and that doesn't take away from what I've done the past four years or who I am if I don't get into a US NEWS TOP 10 school. "
I was so busy with the SAT/ College preparation stuff that I could not check the messages.

First of all I want to appreciate the concerns raised by you. I fully agree that the whole college applications process has been overrated and the fact that not getting into a good school would not change who you are.
I also support your concerns that many freshmen are extremely worried about the college applications process.

But my point is that, in case of freshmen, sophomore and junior students, they come on this website to gain an insight into the college applications process.
There is nothing wrong in reading the extremely tense/ worried messages posted by the seniors... to get the sense of what thier senior year would be like. It is actually good for them to come on this website and actually read the resumes of the students who have performed exceedingly well in their high schools and try to achieve and participate in some of those activities thus enhancing their college admissions chances. Also we(seniors) all know that the colleges look at you as a complete student- high school curriculim, SAT etc, and of particular attention is the fact that they analyze your achievements in the previous years (primarily, however some colleges also give some importance to senior year courses). Therfore it becomes all the more imperative that the lower classmen be aware of what they need to do to get into a good college.

I know that not getting into a good college would not change who they are, but think of it this way that if they get into a good college what a great achievement it would be. It may not be an achievement acadmically in the long run ( which I think is arguable) but it would definately be a major morale booster for them to actually witness the fruits of their hard work ripening.

Therefore to summarize, this forum definately has some good points and some neative aspects, but overall I think it is a primarily positive pathway for college aspirants.

Shubham

Wow, I couldn't agree with the author of this post more. It seems like many students these days obsess over things that they have no control over - like the college process. You can do everything in your power to make a good impression, but at the end of the day, all you can do is send off that application and hope for the best. I found this thread to be very insightful, skepticalsenior you might want to fine tune that and submit it to a magazine or something, I really think it's that good. Thanks for reminding me what's important in life. I needed that.

happiness is definetly underrated! Nothing is more important than being happy, at least to me

More power to ya, Skeptical. I used this forum to have some people read over my essay to catch the grammar and typo errors, and that is about all. But I kind of like reading what everyone else is doing, but there is a fine line between perusing the threads and an unhealthy obsession.

By the way, I applied to NYU. If I see you on the streets of Manhattan I will be sure to throw you a crumb of food, but if and only if you sit by a really creative sign you drew on a ratty piece of cardboard. One like "I lost my fanny pack that had all my supplies on the A line and I need $43 to..."

Yea i definitely agree, I am a freshman and I have been getting pressured about college for 2 years now. Everyone makes me feel like if what I am doing at that exact moment is not going to help me get into college I might as well not do it. I'm so sick of it all..... Plus my ipod got stolen last night.. I love the world.

"When I see a kid ****ed over a score of 1530 , I pause and think back to my 1400+ score...the extracurricular activities, no matter how stellar it might have seen at the time, have lost its value, and my grades, my rank, my courseloads...are nothing but "barely-there" oks..."
This is exactly what happened to me. I almost decided to not even apply at my two dream schools because I thought that I would pale in comparison to the applicant pool at both notre dame and northwestern. My parents don't pressure me at all but they were pretty disappointed I was going to give up before I'd even started. Thankfully, I realized just what skeptical senior has so eloquently articulated. This isn't life or death and I'm done defining myself with test scores and GPA. Furthermore, this site is a waste of time for such overworked, overachieving kids. We should be spending our free time having fun or in my case actually working on the apps themselves instead of obsessing over admissions to the uber competitive Ivies or LACs.

yeah. seems like your point is pretty convincin..we're too stressed out

"Hey, maybe if I get rejected from ALL THE SCHOOLS IN THE ENTIRE WORLD (nightmare right) I'll take a year off, go to Europe, take photos of random people in Barcelona. Why not?"
yep, if u can afford to spend a year long holiday in europe good for u. not all of us can.

yeah you all realize this forum right here is a POS...?

cause... really... the SAT is really nothing other than a test that doesn't matter if you got the $$$... and also, the gpa and ECs are > than the SAT.

i thought i was obsessed about college in 9th grade, but the most i got to was "well, let me just make straight As"... got more serious this junior year, though. i am so glad i didn't find this board out until a few weeks ago.

i never said i could "take a holiday in europe" but i'd like to wander around...on the road style

i think that a small fact is overlooked... on cc, almost everyone is 1400+, and i think the ones that are paranoid with 1550+ are just retarded, everyone should calm down... i couldn't agree with u any more skeptical senior... maybe i'm just saying this because if i get rejected this year... i can always stay for another year of HS and try again :) but seriously, this website must be paranoid central... just calm the **** down... and i bet that was censored :(
