Why UCLA over Cal? This is the hardest decision of my life!

So I recently got accepted into UCLA and Cal as pre-bus major.
Alot of people have told me that Cal's business is a million times better than UCLA's, but there are just so many other factors in college decisions..
The thing is, I'm not entirely sure about majoring in business anyway.
Here's what I've got so far-

Reasons for UCLA
-fly honeys EVERYWHERE
-awesome weather
-far from home (not big factor)
-campus aesthetics
-beaches
-sports/spirit
-hollywood/celebrities
-downtown/things to do
-less competitive/general atmosphere

Reasons Against UCLA
-not as prestigious as Cal
-no business school

Reasons for cal:
-Prestige/ranking
-the business program/Haas
-good food around campus
-spirit

Reasons against Cal:
-weather sucks
-don't really like the campus.. although Haas is pretty nice
-i hear cal business is extremely cutthroat and you're basically on your own. Apparently people go out of their way to NOT help you.
-homeless everywhere/crime
-close to home (not a big factor)

Overall, I feel that I would have a more enjoyable time at UCLA, but Cal is a more practical path to choose. My reasons for UCLA are almost all non-academic. I also plan on going to grad school...
I would like to know more pro's and cons for both schools (living conditions, dorms, activities, etc). Also, can someone please elaborate on the atmosphere at UCLA in terms of competitiveness? The cutthroat atmosphere at cal is perhaps my biggest turnoff.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Go to the place that you would enjoy more.

If you plan on going to grad school for an MBA, go where you would receive the best undergraduate business education and achieve a high gpa. The prestige of your graduate school will be weighed more so it’s important to do well as an undergraduate.

UCLA actually has better food (in my opinion, and the princeton review’s) than Berkeley.

nooob, the thing is, I would probably receive a better undergrad bus education at cal, but achieve a higher GPA at ucla… haha

^^The GPA definitely isn’t true. Especially with that attitude…someone’s in for a rude awakening.

ucla xDD (10char)

YOUUUUUUUUUUU DONT KNOW ME!

haha… I did say probably. And seeing as how I work better corporately in comfortable environments, i’d say its a safe assumption.

I KNO UUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
gut feeling it

honestly, UCLA will feel like a resort in a beautiful part of LA. I have no doubt that if you choose UCLA, you’ll have a lot of fun, perhaps even more fun than at Berkeley.

In terms of quality of life, UCLA definitely wins. It has better campus, better food (ranked 12th best college food by Princeton Review), and better surroundings. You will know what it means to “have fun” and to “live life to its fullest extent”.
In terms of academics, Cal definitely wins. But since you’re going to grad school, it doesn’t matter that much (most employers only look at your grad school). But UCLA is still prestigious and ranked the 3rd best public college in the nation. GPA-wise, it depends on your major. The average GPA for engineering majors at Cal is around 1 point lower than the average GPA at UCLA. But the overall GPA for Cal is somewhat higher (if not the same) than UCLA.

Not really, but nice try…

Correction - UCLA has an excellent business school… however, it is for graduate studies only. No undergrad business major. But boo-hoo, you need an MBA in business anyway. An undergrad business degree’s not gonna get you much.

Clearly, you haven’t heard about UCLA pre-meds.
And you definitely are on your own at UCLA - just like other UC campuses, I would expect. If you can’t figure things out on your own (or aren’t willing to figure out where to go for help… on your own), then you definitely should not go to a UC.

But it sounds like you’ve already drunk the “Cal has better academics than UCLA” kool-aid, so I say head up to Berkeley.

Alright, let me rephrase myself … in terms of most academic majors and overall prestige, Cal definitely wins. There’s a reason why Cal is ranked higher on almost all rankings than UCLA.

yeah maybe by like 0.05 if any

I seriously doubt that UCLA is that much easier than Cal in terms of getting a good GPA. (note i’m not saying anything about the program)

I’m doing pre-business economics at UCLA and I have a 3.9…it is not that hard to achieve but it isn’t super easy either. I am sure that if I had gone to Cal, I would have still achieved a 3.8 or above, although there is no way to prove it.

Go to Cal if you think you’re gonna get a better education there, which I do think you will if you get into Haas. But if you do not, UCLA Business Economics is hands down better than the normal econ at Cal.

Anyway after a year of college, i think a good college is a college that makes you happy, so think about that when u decide. Go to a college that will make you feel happy

Keep in mind that you still need to get INTO Haas. From a friend that was recently accepted into Haas as a second year undergraduate (into the bus. admin major not MBA) they have an acceptance rate of about 50%. That of course doesnt include the students that didnt even bother to apply because their GPAs were too low, which makes it even lower. The question is would you still go to Berkeley assuming you would NOT get into Haas?

I actually heard that acceptance percentage was less than 20% into the Haas undergrad program…

mmmmwu:
How is the business-economics major different than, say, a Business Major at USC’s Marshall? Would the jobs out of school be much different and would the opportunity/salaries be different? Do you enjoy your major? And how social, outgoing are the other students in your major?
