Why would a student choose to go to a religious college?

Catholic schools and other religious schools are different. Granted, I'm sure that there is the occasional party and drinks at Grove City College and Florida College, etc, but the kids who go to those schools really are committed to Christianity in most cases and do not do those kinds of things. Catholic high schools/colleges tend to be more liberal and Catholic "in name only" type of places and many only go to these schools because they were pushed into a catholic school system by their parents(who also may not even really care about religion). I'm not saying that at Catholic school it is all atheist party kids walking around but for some reason they seem to be less religious than other religious schools.

Jesuit schools offer a balanced and thought provoking education that you would be hard pressed to find at any other institution. Their focus on development of the whole person and goal to be men and women for others cuts across religious boundaries, and they are known for being exceptionally open and welcoming to all who choose such an education. As a student at a top Jesuit high school, I can definitely say that I've benefited from my school's spiritual connections. Bear in mind, students at Jesuit institutions are far from dogma spouting religious freaks, and we still pack in our fair share of partying.

i agree with jkmar21 and superstarr, for me it just so happens that the schools i like happen to be catholic, i dont like them because theyre catholic. i like their attitude about always giving back to society and just trying to improve people intellectually, but also as a person.

One of the craziest parties I've ever attended was at a Northern CA Catholic school, so I'm not too sure about religious schools having less sex, drugs, or alcohol.

It depends. In BYU,they don't have drug and alcohol at all!

BYU isn't a Catholic school...

I know,but BYU is a religious school.

Well people like the structure better...or fooundations on a faith......or maybe the atmosphere. However alot of non-religous people go to the religous schools where I live. Protestant and Catholic(Catholic more) schools usually draw more non Chrisitans while a school like BYU is probably 95% Mormon which is fine.

BYU has strict honor code which may prevent others from applying.
Maybe some religious school have already taken students' religion in admission. That's why some religious schools have more atheists and the others are not.

My school is Methodist-based, but it doesn't really affect anything at all. We have to take a bib-lit class, and we have a dry campus (which I like) and starting this May we'll have a smoke-free campus, too, which is super exciting. But I came here because of the majors offered, not because it's a religious-based school.
