Why Would People Say These Things About JHU?

<a href="http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=240009&page=4&pp=25%5B/url%5D">http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=240009&page=4&pp=25</a></p>

Read about the first 4 posts. I am not naive enough to take everything they say as fact, but their comments cannot be ignored. There have been countless discussions about the topics they discuss I know, and I am just adding to the list. Current students please chime in on this. Are these the kinds of people who just are not motivated enough to work hard and earn their grades? Or is there more people who feel like this? A constructive debate please...

Hey whats up...I've been (and still am) in a lot of those classes that are mentioned, and live right on Homewood. There's no question that one has to work for the grades...I did relatively badly on my first bunch of exams...but then you just get yourself in gear. There's always stuff to do if you look for it, don't buy any of that talk that says there isn't. I'm in a cappella, Hopkins Olympic Taekwondo, and the College Republicans...all the while doing the whole pre-med game, and working a campus job in security. No, I'm not a workaholic or any exceptional genius. It just takes dedication and motivation. On the other hand, the load at JH is intense. You WILL find the depressed work-laden people around here. However, if you are used to dealing with that before, and have been a high achiever, all it takes is to reapply that. Its not the coursework thats tough..it's getting into that mindset. Trust me, it took me too long myself...but its all good. Just remember that the naysayers are the ones that speak out the most. The majority of people here are great.

There we go, c'mon everyone, start the bashing...hehe

Hope this helps

^^ Heh, my sister is the president of the JHU Tae Kwon Do club, though I'm not quite sure if that's the same thing you've mentioned. Yea, my comment was completely irrelevent. I just felt like saying something.

I agree with much of what "littlemage" says especially this line...

"The naysayers are the ones that speak out the most. The majority of people here are great."

Truer words have been said on CC before. It consistently amazes me the negative misconceptions that are spread by Hopkins -- all the people I know love it here. It gets frustrating that the reputation of Hopkins in the public eye tends to be based on the voice of the minority -- students who if they "hate" it so much, why are they here???

Is Hopkins tough -- yes at times it is. But it is Hopkins, come on what were you expecting it to be. I heard all the negativity and rumors before coming here, and looking back none were true. I have fun, I am involved, I work hard, and I get good grades. IT IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT - and if you don't like, I say TRANSFER!!!
