basically i want to know what kinda school fits me and dorky/relax/collaboration are some stuffs i do care.

i know it's kinda late for asking this questions but i start to wonder suddenly.

thanks for your future replies :D

I hear JHU pre-med is cutthroat...

wth kind of question is that?

um.. you mean you do not know what i meant by "how dorky is jhu"??

"dorkyness", i think, is hard to define. it's just about being a little different, geekyness in a way, and etc.
i dont know whether i will be fitting right into "standard/traditional" institutions. ( i dont even know what that means -_-)

i hope it helps you understand my question.

p.s : streetlight, you're replying to my question everytime. THANKS SO MUCH. futhermore, if i can ask, i will so appreciate if you can put some skins and fats around your bone :D

All work and no play makes Bobby apply to JHU....

a student that i know that goes to JHU HATES it, he said they give him ALOT of work. a graduate of JHU told me that JHU does give u ALOT ALOT of work, and even if you stay up all night everynight, u may still end up with like a C, so at JHU, hard work...may not always get u an A. hmm...alot of students in my school dont want to go to jhu (i live in baltimore) becuase they said its all work and no fun, the people are really snobby and all they ever do is study. if that answers ur question about "how dorky is jhu." also, a word of advice, if ur lookin for a party school where u can just slide by...i dont think jhu is the school for u, and if you HAVE to ask "how dorky it is" it probably means that you think its pretty dorky already. and please dont insult other students that wanna go to jhu by saying how "dorky" it is im sure u cna find a better word.

word.........

I'd rather hear directly from a student rather than a "student I know" because sometimes things can be misunderstood.

and it's also nice to hear some positive aspects rather than negative because we ARE applying to this school and it is our number one choice for some of us.

Why tap into all the $hit we hear when there's so much more to it than that?

Hm. You have your anecdotal evidence. And I do too. Im a jhu student and i can think of 20 people off of the top of my head who love this place but does that mean this place is or is not dorky? The point is stories like nyugen's mean nothing. An A grade is very attainable. In my chem class for instance, only 20% get C+ or lower based on the course syllabi and not on anectodal evidence. Also courses in general here are curved to a B/B-. I suppose your friend was one of the slackers. And if you are one to believe such stories so easily without further investigation by yourself, then I guess this campus would be better off without potential students like you. Although this may come off as harsh, it is the truth. My point is no one can give you an accurate portrayal of how "dorky" this place is. Surely there are students in the library studying on the weekends but they do not constitute the majority except on finals week. It is up to you to actually come and visit or spend a night here and find out for yourself how this place is. Worry about how dorky this place only after you get in.

to clarify. i am totally using word "dorky" in really positive way. :)

i am asking this question, mainly because i already heard so many times JHU's cut-throat , no social life, and this and that. and i dont think that's a whole picture. i hope i offended no one.

well i thought i could get some idea(what does JHU stick out? what's JHU's uniqueness?). like some bizzare halloween party JHU people do or x-mas special festival that noone does but JHU.. is there anything like that in JHU??

does it really matter now that our life will be decided in 2 days?

nguyent, i dont get it. i think you applied ED .. despite knowing all that? can i ask what was your reason to apply JHU ED?

"does it really matter now that our life will be decided in 2 days?"

yea lol seriously...

lol i said that "someone i know" not I said that, and you asked a question about JHU, and the most I know about JHU other than its stat are those people that i know that attend JHU. why do I apply to JHU despite all the negative things ive heard about it? Becuase most of the things that I heard about JHU all amounts to one thing: alot of work, and for me, I dont mind the work, I go to college becuase I want to become something, not becuase I want to make friends. So even tho I've heard more negative than positive things about it, those negative things doesnt matter to me, and I wont back away from the college of my choice simply becuase of what other people said, and becuase of the work load.

oh and also my parents want me to go there and i get a new tv is i get in lol ^_^

where are you going to use it?

hey i am a current freshman at jhu. my pass/fail semester officialy ends for me tomorrow when i hand in my 12pg philosophy paper. anyways. we have a lot of dork pride here. and yes its a lot of work and a lot of stress. but it all depends on what you want to do. the people who have more work than they can handle are generally the BMEs or the sudents who just took a lot of classes. but if you take the average amount of classes (15-16 credits) then its not that terrible. grantite im only a freshmen but really, ive loved hopkins so far. very fun. very pretty. and the school really is concerned about the students not over stressing. during reading period they had a midnight breakfast at the dinning hall with free food (not the best) and kareoke and prizes it was awsome and a great study break. o and they curve in pretty much all the classes here so if the average on a test is say 45. that gets curved to like a b, b- as someone else said.

anyways yeah. go hopkins!

I'm a Freshman at JHU and I love it. Its really upto you whether you stay in and study all the time or go out and balance schoolwork and studying. I've found it fairly easy to have tons of time to have fun, time to party, time to study, and time to sleep. This semester is pass/fail, but I'm certain my GPA if calculated would be about a 3.4-3.6. Things just get stressful before the 1 or 2 exams you have in a class during the semester, beforethe big paper due for the class, and during finals but there is a lot of easy time in between.

i dont love dorkiness-who wants to go to a school full of a bunch of losers who stay inside on weekends and study-cutthroat is the exact term i would use for the premed program which is originally what attracted me to the school but the only normal people on campus are those that got scholarships for lacrosse

bitter about rejection? it's ok, it happens to the best of us. You, on the otherhand, are probably the worst.

Happy holidays
