<p>When I was writing mine I remember people saying you should write what you will give to the university as opposed to why you want to attend. I mean think about it, the admission office is making a class, not picking the most accomplished or who wants to go to yale the most. Tell them why they should pick you, not why you picked yale.</p>
<p>oh man. that's such a good point. too bad it's about 24 hours too late for me >_<</p>
<p>i got lucky because my dad went there, so just that alone opened up so many possibilities for what i could write about. Liiike:</p>
<p>1) the secret spots on campus
2) Trumbull (his residential college)
3) the great people i've met who he went to school with
4) how big an impact on my life Yale has already had</p>
<p>but then in my essay i kind of disregarded all of these things, and said how even though my dad went there, it would still be my first choice because it has a fantastic program in my major and it's superior in theatrez!</p>
<p>Aw…no ripping on wit! I think clever has its place…or if not clever, then at least truly original. Emphasis on the TRUE.</p>
<p>I actually took a really big risk…I wrote that in collecting a bunch of pieces of Yale, I Facebook-stalked a friend of mine who’s an Eli now. It was kind of an interesting (albeit narrow) way to scope out a college…I talked about the political, intellectual, and social dynamics of her page, and the fact that she remained incredibly humble. Probably not exactly what they were looking for, but…</p>
