Why must we take the SAT? if it’s a test that was meant for us to fail. Sure grind day and night studying but in the end we can not escape the fate of a low score. I myself had a score of 740, even after working day after day studying for this I failed. I leave you all with this very question Why must we take the SAT?
Were you scoring that low on your practice tests? How were you studying? Did you try Kahn Academy?
Have you tried the ACT? Some students do better on one format vs the other.
Some colleges are also test optional.
I studied on looking back on my notes, working with other classmates that were also top of the class, and even asked the teacher. I scored low as well on the practice, due to my fear of taking tests furthermore I failed and let many people down.
Some people are not good test takers. It’s OK!
Are you a junior?
No a senior
So what’s your game plan for next year. Have you submitting applications yet? How is the rest of your application?
There are a lot of test-optional schools out there.
I looked at my percentages on the likelihood of me getting accepted and many of them are not good.
You don’t have to take the SAT. You can take the ACT or apply to test optional schools.
Why take it? To win scholarships or merit aid and supply extra proof that your high GPA isn’t the result of grade inflation at your high school.
You got a very good score. 740 is hardly “failing”. Don’t complain.
Is the 740 a combined reading/math score or just one section?
SAT/ACTs are a way to kind of normalize grades over all the High Schools.
If School A has students in the top 10 with all As but with SATs of 1000 but
If School B has students in the top 10 with all As but with SATs of 1500 that tells you something about what type of student that school system produces and how prepared they might be for college.
If a student A has a 3.8 GPA an 1400 SAT
and student B has a 3.1 GPA and a 1400 SAT, it tells the college that the students is not meeting their potential for whatever reason. They may read the essay/recommendations to see what that issue might be. It might be that the student has to work to support the family or it might be that the student doesn’t put effort into school.
But if a college hasn’t seen that SAT they may not be aware of the potential of the student.
Now some colleges realize some students are not good test takers…so they are test optional, but may provide other ways to confirm the GPA
combined
Clearly something is wrong then.
- You might have filled in the bubbles wrong (misbubbled or forgot to leave a blank after skipping questions)
- Your study skills need help (less likely if you are doing well in school, but you did say you studied for this, so a detailed analysis of your preparation techniques is in order).
- You might have an undiagnosed learning disability or anxiety disorder.
- You could try a different preparatory strategy. If you self-studied the first time you might try taking a prep class or getting an SAT tutor.
There are other possible reasons. I would suggest that you evaluate the whole experience with help from a guidance counselor, if that is an option. Fix the underlying issue, then try a retake. You can do this.
Studied by looking back on your notes? What notes? It’s not a class test. Same for asking a teacher.
