Low SAT score?

I am going into my senior year of high school and I’ve taken the SAT twice already. I have always felt I was a good student. I go to an extremely well off high school but my SAT scores are so low. The second time I took it, I was so surprised that I didn’t improve as much. It was in May and I got a 1160/1600. I’ve missed the deadline for the August 26th one so there is a late fee but I’m not even sure if I’m going to do well on it. :frowning: I’ve honestly lost all hope and I feel so stressed out about this. I’ve started an important internship this summer and I have an internship during the next school year as well. On top of that, I have 5 aps this upcoming year. So getting a good score on this upcoming SAT is extremely important. I didn’t like the format of the ACT at all so I’m hoping for advice on the SAT.

Hi.
I understand how you feel. I really do suggest trying the ACT. I was disappointed with my SAT score and then took the ACT and did better than I expected. There’s one on September 9th. Most of your SAT studying can apply to the ACT as well.
In terms of bringing your score up, I have a few suggestions. If you family can afford a tutor, perhaps try that. If not, there are still things you can do. I cannot overstate the importance of practice tests. Don’t just do them and score yourself, go back through and find themes in your wrong answers. A theme could be something along the lines of a math concept that you don’t know or running out of time. Also, if you find that most of your mistakes are content rather than time or careless errors, buy a book. I believe prep scholar has a list of the best SAT books. Go through the concepts you need help with, particularly for math. Study grammar rules for writing. My best piece of advice for reading is to practice so you can get used to the types of questions the SAT will ask. If you have any more questions let me know. Good luck

Hi thanks for the reply! The ACT goes way too fast for me. Even while taking the SAT, i sometimes feel like I have to rush. And thank you for the advice. I think my weakness is not practicing enough even though I feel like I’ve taken a million practice tests. I tried focusing on reading today and I got 16 questions wrong out of 52. Most of them were for stupid reasons. I think I just need to practice more. What’s your advice for math? On my May SAT, I swore it was the easiest math SAT portion I’ve ever taken but I got a 570 on it :frowning: I remembered answering every question and using tactics to solve them and getting exact answers as well. I’m going into Calc AB this year and the fact that my math SAT score is so bad makes me worried.
