No weather thread about the big storm in the west? No one affected? I am in a semi desert and got about a foot.
A foot? Yikes. How much do you normally get in a typical winter snowfall?
Balmy 20 degree, sunny morning here in the greater Seattle area. All snow got dumped in the mountains.
It was 84 degrees in my part of NC yesterday. We had a little 45 minute rainstorm in the evening. Currently 71 and sunny today at almost 2pm.
Florida’s been sunny and in the 80s all week. And we’ve had zero snow so far this winter in my neck of the woods in PA. Plenty of rain though.
High desert here-
Got a lot of snow past few days and unusual for here. Yesterday it was changing by the hour - tried to time our dog walk but we got graupled on. The golden doodles hair just kept it away from the body and she wasn’t even wet at home when she shook it off.
We get about 4" a year on average. Got 4" in one afternoon yesterday. Before that, the wind was so strong. The house was shaking and deck chairs that weigh 40-lb were pushed against the railings. I kept thinking about three pigs.
Terrifying beauty!!
That’s so pretty.Freezing rain? Probably not so easy to walk around on icy sidewalk.
Ice storm. Many have been out of power for days now…
I moved to Minnesota this past summer. Between Tuesday and Thursday we received around 18” of snow. There were concerns it could be higher, so only 18” was a good outcome!
I already work from home; H’s office building closed and employees worked from home Wednesday - Thursday. He’s back in the office today.
I’m in Northern Ohio and while we got LOADS of rain on Wednesday and wind, we did NOT get the terrible ice that many less than 30 minutes from us got. It looks pretty on the tree but there were many, many trees uprooted, flooding, tree damage from the ice, property damage and still, lots of power outages. A mess.
But tell us more about the storm that I believe is coming for the west coast? Southern California?
Outside of Portland in the hills. We have at least 18 inches and they don’t really believe in snow plows or salt in the PNW so it’s feeling a lot like Covid lockdown here. The kids haven’t been to school since Tuesday.
My kid said yesterday was cold with painful hail in LA. That’s when I took the ice picture so she wouldn’t feel too sorry for herself…
We had a little bit of rain followed by high winds a couple of days ago, it the weather is perfect in the Phoenix area today. Sunny and upper 60’s. Maybe more rain Sunday.
The trees around here look like they are covered in glass. It’s very pretty, but has caused some downed trees and power outages.
We are supposed to get 5-8 inches of snow on Monday.
Similar to us. We left for our usual jaunt south to escape winter (this time to Puerto Rico where the weather is perfect), but we’re hardly escaping winter temperature wise back home. It’s still a prettier green here though, with Caribbean blue water, so there’s that.
Back home it’s being called, “The Year Without a Winter.”
To those of you in the path of storms, may you enjoy the beauty without any of the various harms. Our DIL’s family in Fresno sent us pics of snow there yesterday!
Our outdoor furniture is for high wind…I also have 40 lb sandbags they use for umbrella stands on each chair bottom (20 was not enough). They are already placed against the house on the deck or otherwise they would be in the next county.
We got about 14 inches of snow (over days) here in my part of the Twin Cities. It’s cold today but warming up tomorrow to 29 degrees which is a good temperature for me to walk. City has already plowed both sides of our street and the alley behind where the garages are. As long as we have power, it’s all good.
