Hey I was wondering about a wildlife biology major. I have always wanted an outdoor job and am pretty good at biology. I have a few questions though. What do you do typically in your classes? What kind of math do you have to know? How competitive is it? What kinds of things can I expect to do on the job normally? Any other information would be great!
Thanks- Drew
(I’m majoring in Ecology with a desire to work in the wildlife conservation field)
My classes involve getting basic understanding of Physics, Chem, Bio and then concentrating in ecology. It is a lot of examination of relationships between different things in nature. There is a lot of reading and lectures. Lab courses are great because we go outside very often.
The highest math I have needed to take is Calculus II (integral calc).
It is a very collaborative (not competitive) major. We Ecology majors are actually stereotyped as being very laidback.
On the job duties depend so much on the job. You could do anything from consulting to park ranger work to research to teaching.
