Anybody able to compare any of these NE PA schools in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton? It's really hard finding opinions of the internet about them.

nbc's the office.

University of Scranton is one of 23 Jesuit colleges and universities (Holy Cross, Georgetown, BC, Fordham, Xavier, St Louis U, Santa Clara, Loyolas, etc) so you can be confident in getting an excellent education there.

I'm an NEPA native, and have personally known many students (from my own high school, and other local schools) who have gone onto study at Wilkes, Kings and Scranton.

Around the area locals hold all three of the schools in high regard, but I'd have to say that Scranton has the best reputation of the three. It sends many of its students on to great medical and veterinary schools, and its science programs are very strong. I don't know much about their other curriculum, but science majors that go to Scranton tend to comment on the intensity of the program.

My cousin is a Scranton freshman this year, and she seems to be a big fan so far, except for the fact that she's living in a triple.

As far as Wilkes and Kings are concerned, they're very near one another, but they're obviously in Wilkes-Barre, which is a bit further from me than Scranton so I don't really know as much about them besides the fact that Wilkes is known for its pharmacy program.

I hope that helped. If you have any other questions about the area or anything feel free to ask!

I know of someone who also looked at Scranton a few weeks ago and really liked the campus and facilities a lot. Apparently the kids are very friendly also.

The Univ. of Scranton is widely considered to be the best among the three, and is about twenty minutes away from Wilkes Univ. and King's College. Wilkes and King's are within a few minutes walking distance of one another. King's College has a Catholic affiliation and almost no campus but is academically superior to Wilkes University. Wilkes has a nice campus and is awarding lots of merit money to very average students (e.g. 1100/1600 SAT). Both King's and Scranton are commuter colleges for the most part. Wilkes has a lot of commuters, and dorm students mostly from New Jersey. Wilkes Barre, Penna., at least the downtown portion is sustained by the prescence of the two schools, Wilkes and King's. Post #4 above by Matt is 100% correct. As you are ranked #one in your class and have a 1350/1600 SAT, you should consider Franklin & Marshall, Bucknell ( if you like preppy and are not offended by heavy alcohol consumption), Colgate ( especially since you are athletic), Lehigh ( high alcohol consumption), Dickinson or Gettysburg College (preppy and frat oriented) if you want to stay in or near Pennsylvania. Want do you plan to study? St. Lawrence Univ. in isolated, extreme upstate New York may also interest you.
