Information on King's college or U Scranton

Does anyone have information about King's college or the U of Scranton?

Thanks.

My D graduated from Scranton and S is there now. Excellent school, both are very happy. S started at a college just up the hill from King’s so we are familiar with that area. We have only driven by King’s and Wilkes - didn’t stop in for a tour.

What kind of information are you looking for?

Thanks for your reply.

Looking for info about the academic quality, dorms, social, basically the inside story I can’t get from the website.

We have found the academic quality at Scranton to be excellent. They are strong in the sciences and have a high percentage of students accepted to medical schools. They just broke ground for a new science building to be opened in fall, 2011. There are a few different honors programs for eligible students.

Freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus (unless living at home with parents) and housing is guaranteed for all 4 years if you remain in on campus housing. There is quite a bit of off campus housing nearby. The dorms are very well maintained with light housekeeping included. The sophomore dorms also have AC. A brand new sophomore dorm was opened last fall as well as a new student center that opened in Jan. 08.

There are a lot of activities on campus with many clubs and organizations. Some classes carry a community service requirement so there are plenty of opportunities in the area. For sports, intramurals are popular and they have a good variety of D3 varsity sports. Kids looking for a party can usually find one being held at an off campus house. There is a mall within walking distance as well as a movie theater, coffee shops, pizza places and other stores. Sno Mountain ski area is about a 10 minute drive.

They are fairly generous with merit aid if you have the gpa and SAT scores and very good with need based aid.

What major would you be considering?

Does anyone have any antecdotes they are willing to share regarding merit aid awarded at Scranton?

Wiggle ~ I sent you a PM!

My D will be junior next year at Scranton. She absolutely loves the school and so do we. She works very hard, but also has alot of fun doing a DIII Sport and the weekends always have parties and the like. Campus is always clean and pretty and kids all seem very pleasant. The place feels like home to my D and when we are there we get the same feeling. Merrit Aid is adequate but not over the top in our case. The academics in Nursing, the sciences and teaching seem very strong as do the business programs.

Considering accounting. Also how religious is the school?

Thanks in advance.

My Father teaches Criminal Justice at the U of S. It’s a great school, and I’ve attended a few of my fathers classes there. I’m going to be a Senior in High School after the summer, and plan on going into Business. If I stay local I may consider going to the U, because from what I’ve seen the the academic quality is excellent. They’ve also started construction on a new science building.

Ah, accounting. Good program there. S just finished taking 2 accounting courses this year required for his major. I will say that the professor teaching the class can make a difference. He loved the prof (an adjunct) he had for the spring semester. He was someone who was quite high up in the business world and was an excellent teacher.

The school can be as religious as you want it to be. If you want to go to mass every day, that is available. If not, that is ok too. My kids are not Catholic and they fit in fine. There is a core requirement of 2 theology classes, but that is certainly doable.

If you haven’t visited yet, you should. It is a wonderful community with great spirit.

OFBD123 ~ LOL, my D graduated with CJ as one of her majors a few years ago. Wonder if she had your dad?

It’s very possible, and you’re welcome to message me privately about it if you’d like to know who he is.
