i got in this year with a 192 but my writing was really high. i am a semifinalist still waiting to hear back about finalist status. only about 800 people nationally get finalist status.

what state are you in fashion frenzy???
I'm hoping to get in with a 198 in Tennessee... Tennessee actually had a pretty high NMS cut off relative to the other states down here so we shall see

I became a semi finalist with a 195 but I'm not sure of the cutoff

Dreaming what sate r u n?
JW causs i herd it varies from state 2 state...and suspect that it varies kinda like the nms cut offs and there is another thread that did the state nms cut offs

I'm from CT

k thanks Connecticut has a higher cut off score in NMS than Tennessee so hopefully the NAS is the same way.

What are the ways to achieve personal growth?

For the class of 2007, in Washington State, 185 made the cutoff for National Hispanic Scholar. I think that National Achievement is somewhat higher. Washington State is ranked 7-8 in recent years for PSAT scores. I would think you have a good shot. Lots of state colleges give full rides for all four years with these awards...look at Arizona, Arizona State, Nebraska,Oklahoma New Mexico and many others.
Good Luck

Thanks holmespoint.

Hey yeah I'm interested. I'm pretty sure that for black male like myself, 201 will make the cutoff (I live in Fairfax, Virginia). My question is, did we have to indicate that we were interested in anything like the National Achievement award? I'm not sure if I got to fill in everything, because my proctors did kind of a bad job with running things. Will I just start receiving mail or what?

Paved88, I think that they will contact you through your guidance counselor. Your guidance counselor will know how this works.

I think as long as you marked AA on the demographics you are fine. The NAS will contact the counselor to make sure you are AA. Friend had to show her Mom had Venezulean birth document to be considered Hispanic.

i doubt it i live in arizona which is one of the dumber states and you have to get like a 209
i got a 183 and my english teacher said that mayyyyybe that would be good enough for honorable mention

Naw, morgan I think your thinking of National Merit or your teacher was thinking about National Merit. I think I remember someone saying they got National Achievement with a 190 something.

i got a 216 on the psat's--will that be enough for a semifinalist award? I'm from NY. I was 99th percentile in the country. I took the test in November 2008.

jj, for National Achievement for blacks definitely.
IDK about NAtional Merit, but it prolly will.

I got a 188 on my PSAT and I took the SAT and got a 1690 the first time and an 1880 the next time, so I actually tied my PSAT score. I’m hoping to scratch the 2000 surface next time, at least with my ‘super score’.

Oh and I’m a semi-finalist btw. I hope I can become a finalist with the 1880…

I’m in Florida, if that matters. I know the semi-finalist standings are state-based, but does the same go for finalists?

I was a National Merit Finalist years ago and got like a $500 Scholarship for it… Nothing special…

Check out the Best Buy College Scholarship. Their are winners in every state!

^^^

If you don’t apply to a school that rewards a National merit or achievement, then you’ll get either nothing or a small award. That’s why it’s a good idea to seek out schools that give good scholarships to these national scholars.

Hi! I was curious to know if you ever were a National Achievement semifinalist. I have a 185 in Mississippi and do not know what to expect.
