I am an AA male in the state of Michigan with a PSAT score of 185. I am just wondering if that score is good enough to make National Achievement Semi-Finalist. If you were a 2007 PSAT test taker, any pertinent information about National Achievement cutoff scores would be beneficial.

I think I got a 200 two years ago and no sort of award.

I assumed it was given to like 230 and up.

its like 204-207 and above....depending on the year

Probably not a 185. It's almost 100% of the time above 200.

I think you guys are talking about the National Merit Competition, which is contested by everyone; I am talking about the NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT, only for African-Americans. I almost know for certain the cutoff for NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT semi-finalist is below 200, especially for MICHIGAN. I just don't know what score, which is why I am asking.

google it and I'm sure you'll find out, please.

^freakchild, you obviously have reading problems. I pity you. God help you on CR.
facepalm

He's obviously not talking about general National Merit (which relates to the score cutoffs you mentioned...217...223..etc.)

National Achievement is completely, utterly, absolutely different!

The score cutoffs for national recognition in the AA competition are often significantly lower.

OP, I don't have any experience with the AA side of thing, but one of my good friends made National Hispanic Achievement or w/e with only a 205-ish...and that's in Texas, the state with the most Hispanics next to California.

So, I'm guessing that the scores for AAs might be pretty similar. 185 does sound too low for me, but the cutoffs aren't anywhere near the 220-230 range.

Foolish CCers shakes head

...........................bump

opus, did you read the links or do a cc search? This subject does not get a lot of traffic . I noticed "achievement" was not among your "tags".

well since achievement was in the post, it was pretty much already considered a tag. But anyway, I did look at the posts, and found some very good information. However, I am still not able to find any concrete information on actual concrete scores, especially from actual NA semi-finalist.

i got a 187 and i wasn't notified for anything when i took it last year. anything above a 200 has a chance of something though.

How does the tag thing work? Add some to make others searches easier but anything in the text needn't be added?

BTW:my D was commended/ referred with 189.

I searched online for National Achievement cutoffs, but couldn't find any good info.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I hope you qualify =)

So since your daughter lives in California--based on your user information--I have a chance at semi-finalist, since Michigan most likely has a much lower NM cutoff (and therefore NA). Although I think NA semi-finalist are determined by region. Either way my region, which consists of Michigan, Indiana, West Virginia, Illinois, etc, still probably has a lower cutoff than the California/western region.

There's a national Hispanic achievement award?

......................bump

My daughter took the test in Michigan in 2006, National Achievement Finalist. Score.. 185.

That generated more mail from schools with mind-boggling offers than we ever imagined.

Hope that helps.
