Will a 560 Critical Reading score on the SAT I screw me over? I'm an American citizen living abroad. The rest of my application is not the best, but decent. I've applied to only top 50 schools and Babson...including top 20 schools (I'd be overjoyed if I got into one).

Are admissions officers going to reject me because of this score? Or will they overlook it? Any opinions are appreciated.

You didn't post your other stats (and I'm not searching for them), but 560 is a little on the shy side. Please re-take and re-think those colleges if the score is similar on the re-do.

I'm in the same boat- 770/760/580, but I'm hoping my ACT score (32) will be high enough for them to overlook that. Have you taken the ACT? Also, are English and the Humanities your strong side in school or are you more of a Math/Science person? My lowest grade was in Math, but my transcript clearly shows Math is my worst subject and I made it clear I don't intend to pursue a Math-related major, so maybe that will help?

damn, colleges are going to think you are illiterate. haha, i'm just joking; your other scores are really strong and i think that admissions officers will recognize that reading isn't your strong spot, but that you're still very much a valid candidate.

I find that I disagree with the writer or I use outside knowledge. It's usually those reading passages. Sucks. I should've taken the ACT (I was misinformed. I also thought it wouldn't make a difference and that I'd score low, but the ACT averages the scores rather than adds them up). Thanks, keep the replies coming!

Aw, poor you, having to settle for Berkeley. :[

Really, get over the 560. Trying to pinpoint any one reason for a rejection or an acceptance is futile. The 560 wasn't a 'deciding factor'; I can almost guarantee it.
