So after high school I enlisted in the army, deployed to Afghanistan, and got out. After I had gotten out of the Army I decided to stay in the national guard and go to the local Comunity College. My first year made some decision was a little to cocky, took some hard classes and didn’t do well, and ended my freshmen year with a 2.8 gpa. Anyways, Before I could start my sophomore year, I had to deploy to Egypt with the national guard whare I had been doing a lot of reflecting, What I wanted to do with my life, I didn’t like the major I was in, I’m going to move to NC, etc. My question now is when I move to NC and start my new major, will that 2.8 gpa haunt me the rest of my life? If I have 3 more amazing years would a competitive grad school be like “nah this guy had the bad freshmen year” or could I still be competitive? Also if you all could just anwser and not talk shit that’d be appreciated maybe throw me some advice and personal stories that relates, that’d be nice.
You will be okay. You would have to just mention the circumstance (just came back from the army, the uncertainty, ect) I also have one bad semester on my transcript due to a concussion, and my college counselor told me to write an essay in the additional information section to explain. My advice is that you will do the same when the time comes.
We are human. We have flaws. Admissions officers understand that. It’s by overcoming those flaws that we become the stronger applicant.
Thank you very much rabbit, I appreciate that.
Glad I could be of assistance!
