Will a college hold my acceptance decision?

Alright, so I got a fantastic offer from my current job. It's a seasonal job (Bears hibernate in the winter so we're only open April-October). I would be getting a promotion to H.R. Manager AND a raise... but /only / if I stay until the end of the season. Most colleges start in August or September so you can see how that would be a problem.

I really want to take the offer. I think it would be beneficial to me once I graduate college (Three year work experience, promoted to H.R. manager at age 18? Um, yeah.) But that would put me behind a couple months.

I'm still waiting on my decision from University of Washington, but they run on a quarter system. Assuming I got accepted, would they still let me attend if I started classes in Winter Quarter instead of the Fall Quarter? Or would I have to apply all over again this fall to start in the Winter Quarter?

Do all colleges have the same policy for holding decisions? If they do not hold my place do you think it would be better for me to apply again or just not take the job and start school in Fall like normal?

Thanks for your time, I appreciate your help :)

I have only heard of deferred admissions for private schools. Some publics may do it but it doesn’t look like Washington does. Tacoma says they do. The first link is under transfers, the second not.

That is a personal decision, I wouldn’t delay if you are at all a borderline admit.

It strikes me the only answer you can get is on the other end of the telephone. Why don’t you call UW?

Thank you very much BrownParent :)

And T26E4, I see what you’re saying… It’s just that I don’t know whether I have been accepted or not yet. I would rather not waste the time of the employees who are extremely busy at this time of year, if that makes sense? I tried looking on their website before I asked on here but I couldn’t find anything for some reason. Thankfully BrownParent helped me out :)

Most universities like to manage Fall enrollment so it may be a win-win: you could ask if you could defer to the Winter Quarter instead of Fall due to being offered a position in relation to your major/career

If you are considering starting one quarter late you should look very carefully at the curriculum. At D1’s quarter-system school, course sequences begin in fall quarter and build quarter to quarter, with each the prerequisite for the next. If she were to miss a quarter she’d have to sit out for a whole year to catch up.
