Today i saw my ap biology score and i got a four, but i took the sat bio m and got a 790. I was extremely sick on the day of the ap biology test and feel that I did not get a five because of my sickness. Will my sat score outweigh my ap score? Should i consider retaking? I would like the college credit and most colleges dont accept fours for bio credit. I also have a poor gpa of around 3.45 at a rank 200 highschool in the nation. Will this severely bring down my chances of getting into an ivy league like Dartmouth? Will applying ED dramatically improve my chances of getting in? Will the fact that i was a sophomore taking ap biology compensate for my score?

“i took the sat bio m and got a 790.” Nuff said.

1) Your GPA’s pretty low for an ivy. I would worry more about that than anything.
2) SAT2s are… eh… not really an application maker/breaker. Probably one of the factors that have the least amount of weight. Your SAT/ACT & GPA are far more important.
3) If you think a 4 will harm you, then don’t list it on your app. It’s as simple as that. 4s are actually great, though.
4) A lot of great schools give credit for 4s on Bio - some ivies do too.
5) But do be more realistic about the ivy league dream though. A 3.45 GPA probably… won’t cut it unless the other major aspects of your app are truly amazing. There are other less-selective schools out there that provide as good of an education. Do your research.
6) If you still insist on applying to an ivy (after all, it is a crapshoot), yes, the acceptance rate for ED is about twice as high as the RD acceptance rate.
7) Dartmouth doesn’t take AP credit so…

hmmm, rank 200 is not very good. GPA reflects your study habits, character, and perseverance. I would be more concerned about that than your ap exam score. I mean, if you are rank 200 at your school, why would the school pick you out of the millions of other applicants? I guess it depends on which school you apply to.

im a rising sophomore so i can raise my gpa in the next two years, my freshman year tanked my gpa

What school has “millions of other applicants”…?

im not rank 200 my school is rank 200 out of the nations schools

Your AP score isn’t even bad. So no need to find an excuse as to why it wasn’t a 5.
The GPA/RANK is the biggest issue.

And I think you mean rising junior?

i would say my class rank is like 10-15 percent but usually 5-15 people in my class of 500 go to harvard

Wait… 5-15 to Harvard alone, or to the Ivy League altogether

harvard, but my school is also relatively nearby so that may also be part of it

and yeah i meant rising junior

Wow, well that’s interesting.

so does going to my hs significantly improve my chances and possibly overcome my lower gpa?

See how your GPA compares to the GPAs of people that did get into the schools you like. As for your original question, I’d think a 4 is a minor issue. Did you plan to major in biology?

no but i consider science to be my best subject out of the four main academics. I am better at chem/physics than i am at earth science and bio
