How do you learn to love a burger? Put some bacon on it.

My SIL owns a company who manufactures products made with the ingredients MereMom lists. Personally, I have no knowledge of this line of foods but I’m sure my SIL would contact someone at UA if they are interested in pursuing those food options.

lol, careful. God forbid you’ll offend someone who doesn’t eat meat. Oops I now just offended those that don’t believe in God either. Oh nooooooooooooooooo

Atlanta,

My post wasn’t meant to offend (though I don’t care if it did). It was a joke. Granted not a very funny one, but a joke nonetheless. It’s not like I called “Tofu” a four letter word or anything. Though it is :-)

I hope this board hasn’t become that PC over the last five months. Because if it has I’m gonna be offending a lot more people unintentionally.

Casino…

We will just have to agree to disagree. It is all good.

Randomparent, the vegetarians at UA should request that the dining halls make nutritional yeast available. Just 1 and 1/2 tablespoons have 8 grams of protein, lots of fiber and the B vitamins vegetarians often miss. And it is delicious (cheesy, nutty flavor when moistened or mixed with food) and relatively inexpensive. I put it on salads, rice and quinoa dishes, etc. and love it! It is used like a condiment. No reason they can’t have some containers out for all students to use.

Is Manna Grocery still in business? On McFarland?

Yes, Manna foods is still in business!

Atlanta68, Thanks for the info on the nutritional yeast. I will pass it along to our son. FWIW, he does shop at Manna Grocery, but he has a lot to learn about what to purchase (so far, he seems to have mostly purchased dessert/snack type foods).

UA has been getting a lot better in terms of vegetarian and vegan-friendly items. Like everything else at the dining halls, the food is on a rotation, so you will see the same things every few days. I know that the rotation is 2-3 weeks for the non-vegetarian entrees.

Bama Dining does not have menus up this week. Keep in mind that the posted menus may not be correct. Feel free to ask if an item is vegetarian as some items, particularly yogurt and collard greens, are not always vegetarian. It would be safe to assume that the cheddar and processed cheeses are not made with animal rennet.

Casino, there are some people who are vegetarian or vegan because of health concerns or simply not liking the meat option that is being served.

Atlanta68, students would be welcome to bring nutritional yeast or any desired condiment with them to the dining halls. I’ve been tempted to bring a bottle of Cholula hot sauce with me when I eat in the dining halls.
