Hey guys, a little background on my situation
I am a 3rd semester political science student who was/is also doing a premedical track (taking courses required and recommended for medical school) and in the beginning of the semester i signed up for a few science courses along with polisci courses.
I signed up for a junior level Human Physiology course, and its honestly not going well. I am seriously failing the class horribly. On top of that, the beginning of this year really made me think long and hard as to whether i really wanted to go to medical school, and I realized that the environment and the type of people I would be working with are not what I ideally picture in my future. I would much rather have a career in government or law and politics, and the more research ive done the more tempting law school looks. since i already have my foot in the door with my major, and the fact that ive realized its something i actually truly enjoy, I just hope its not too late.
my question is, since im failing this class so horribly, would law schools look down on having a W (not a WP or WF, just W) on my transcript? especially if it was a class within a path that has nothing to do with law/politics? im really concerned about my future, so thanks in advance for responding
A W on your transcript will be neutral and will not be counted against you in your LSAC GPA (a WF, would be counted as a failing grade).
@foreverago: Ws will count against you unless your school considers them nonpunitive. That said, a single W shouldn’t hold you back too much, especially if you do well on the LSAT.
Have you gotten any legal internships or other experience with the practice of law?
@Demosthenes49 sorry for the late response! if by nonpunitive you are talking about the effect towards my gpa, then no. the w does not take a toll on my gpa .
no i have no experience or internships. like i said, i only got this realization that i hate science and i prefer law/politics fairly recently so ive been scrambling to get my life together :S
@foreverago: If your school considers Ws nonpunitive then you should ask the school for a letter stating that. LSAC does its best but it’s always good to have documentation if you can get it.
Regarding internships, now’s a good time to get on that. Better to find out before you get too firmly on the law school path whether law is right for you. Experience is the only way to do that.
@Demosthenes49 for sure! thanks for the advice. talked to my career counselor and she is helping me out with the internship process. thanks!!!
