I saw this same thread somewhere else but there was too much contradiction in it to reach a conclusion... SO

Would applying early action help me at BC? I know the rate is higher EA, but that's also because alot of top students apply EA, and so how would does applying early action to Boston College generally effect the applicant pool and competition?

From what I hear from my counselors, early action doesn’t affect your chances that much. I think that college admissions know what kind of students they’re looking for, meaning that time doesn’t make a difference on whether you’re accepted or not. A college would not take an under-qualified student just because he/she applied earlier. Applying early action to me means that you’d get that answer from your dream school earlier, so you won’t be tearing your hair out by Spring waiting for college acceptance letters. This is just my college counselor’s theory. Go for it if it makes you happy.

I agree. Although early action does show that college you are pretty seriously considering them your number one, it doesn’t offer a huge advantage. If you’re a really big stretch for that college, it probably won’t change things either way. If you’re right on the cusp, I feel it might be a bit of a boost.
