admission to JHU SAIS for a masters?
I am very much interested in SAIS.
Do they give preferences to their own?

My advice is don’t worry about it. If you like JHU, go there. You’ll probably be miserable going to a school just so you can have a better shot at grad school.

It certainly can’t hurt.

If you want to attend SAIS JHU undergrad could indeed help. For top students in International Studies at JHU they have the option of directly matriculating into SAIS without applying.

The answer is a bit of both. Clearly the easiest way to be admitted to SAIS is as a Hopkins undergraduate via the 5 year BA/MA program. While admission to the program is competitive, it is less selective than SAIS admissions generally. On the other hand, if you are not admitted to the 5year program, having a BA from Hopkins can be a disadvantage since the class you are applying to has already admitted a number of Hopkins undergraduates from the program. Nevertheless, I do know Hopkins alumni who have been admitted to SAIS outside of the 5 year program.

My understanding is that to get to the 5 year Masters you will apply 2nd semester of your sophmore year and pretty much need a 3.7+ to be considered. (Not sure if this includes your covered 1st semester or not). SO it is very competitive to get in. It is also probably the best way to get in as well.
