So today I found out my scores for the bio m and ush subject tests, and they both weren’t too impressive, at sub 700. I’m very interested in schools like carnegie mellon, georgetown, and uva, as well as the uconn honors program. I scored a 790 on my math 2 subject test, and a 700 on my chem test. Im thinking about submitting my chem and math 2 tests. Will having relatively low subject test scores matter? and what is a good score for the schools im looking at?
Georgetown does not require subject tests but strongly recommends three. Moreover, it requires you to submit scores for all tests you have taken. Do not know your below 700 scores but you must submit those to Georgetown and one of those has to be submitted to meet the strong recommendation of “three.” Sub-700 may heave some negative impact there but it really depends, incluing on how low you mean. Georgetown is the only college in the US, among colleges that require or recommend subject tests, that wants three rather than two subject tests, except that some others want three from home schooled applicants.
Carnegie Mellon requires 2 subject tests for most of its schools (school of art, music, drama and design requires none) and one of those required is a math, and for science related schools, a science (for you the chemistry). It does not require you to submit all test scores so you do not even have to send the others. UVA does not require but recommends two subject tests. It also does not require all test scores and you can send just the two but for it scores in the 600s should still be considered OK.
Correction to above. Carnegie Mellon does require you to provide all your test scores and thus you need to submit the two lower scores. However, it uses the highest two subject test scores to determine admission.
