Will being in a controversial industry hurt the chance of MBA admission?

Let's say someone was success in an industry like the gambling industry or tobacco industry. Will the nature of the industry hurt the candidate's chance to a good MBA program?

Will schools have a policy of not "supporting" a particular industry?

Thanks

Highly doubtful that schools have a policy of not “supporting” a particular industry. They are looking for leaders (or at least people with leadership potential). They are looking for people from all different industries who can bring something to the table.

Although I currently live in NYC, I spent 4 years in Richmond, VA near powerhouse Philip Morris and Altria (parent company to Philip Morris). They are both responsible companies that even have ways to quit smoking right on their home page under “Responsibility” tab. As for the gambling industry, I wouldn’t see why that would be a problem as well. It’s still a business at the end of the day.

I wouldn’t worry about it. If it’s legal, and relevant put it on your resume! :)
