Hi all, I’m a super keen grade 10 about to enter the IB program at my school. I’m going to summarize my résumé as quickly possible… and please leave your opinion on what I have so far. I won’t have done my SATs or ACT yet, obviously, but I’ll be taking them twice, and I’m fairly confident in scoring above 2100 because I did the SSAT a couple years ago without preparation and broke 2200… I know it’s not the same thing but anyways
I’m a Canadian student so keep that in mind (our grading system is 80+ = A, not sure if the US still accepts that)
Grade 9:
4.0 GPA UW
4.6 GPA W (can’t get that 5.0 b/c there were physically no more enriched courses I could take)
Pre-IB Marks (10)
Math- IB(10) 90
Accounting - Regular - 93
French - IB- 94
History - IB - 88
(uncompleted courses)
Math (11, IB) 84 (one test in)
English- IB - 90 (maybe like 20% of the course done)
Science - IB - 77 ( Only 2 summatives done worth about 7% of our final mark)
Music - Regular - 90+ (our music teacher doesn’t calculate our marks for us, but this is based on the marks I’ve gotten back)
Extracurriculars
Bayview Investors - founded last year by myself in June, I currently am president.
Youth Action Committee - selected by the town’s council, I help plan events for youth as well as represent youth opinion on town developments (i.e. what to do with unused land, designs for new parks, etc.)
DECA - 2 years, last year i was 107th of 2000+ stock traders on SMG (north atlantic region) is year I placed 6th provincially for Financial Operations Research.
Math contests: I honor rolled in Cayley (grade 10 competition) last year, not sure about Fermat that i wrote this year
Bands - I’m in Toronto Youth Symphonic Winds, as well as the grade 11 band as a tubist (I play a grade up)
Sports - on the swim team, and intermural soccer for fun I also have Bronze Star, medallion, and Cross, standard first aid, CPR A, B, and C. (Lifeguard certifications)
Tutoring - I’m an accounting and math tutor
Ambassadors - YRT (York Region Transit), CGA (Certified General Accountants), and WCM (Women in Capital Markets)
I can probably get at least 4/5 reference letters if required
N.B. My marks will “converted” next year (super inflated) to equal ontario’s expectations b/c IB is a lot more rigorious. Conversions vary subject to subject but most kids are about to get a low 90 average, or higher.
