Hey, I will be applying next year in November and I was wondering if I can get some feed back on what colleges I might get accepted to? I will be applying to the following: San Fran State, Cal State Fullerton, UC Merced,Cal State Fresno,Cal State San Marcos, Cal State San Bernardino, UC Santa Cruz, Pepperdine University, and UCR.
These are my stats:
I will apply with a 3.3 average and an 1800 SAT score. I am also in the full I.B diploma taking 7 college courses. I have never taken AP before so this a major transition for me. Out of 500 students in my grade only 13 students are pushing themselves to do the full I.B diploma.
EC’s: Treasury of Christian Club, member of M.E.C.H.A, member of the ‘Equality Club’

Background and topic for statement essay: I am mexican and come from a low income family.I will be the first to attend University. My father works day and night just to support our family financially and we only see him once a week and my mother is a stay at home mom to care for my siblings. At a young age , my eldest sisters had children in their teens which is why they now struggle to get themselves a career and better the lives of their children. They can’t afford to pay a baby-sitter so I am constantly taking care of them which impedes on my school work. I also want to touch upon my mothers life and her impact on myself. She was raised in Compton , living a tragic childhood. She faced many tribulations in her household and until today is the only one of her siblings to have bettered her life and not end up as a drug addict or in prison.
Calculate your UC/CSU GPA: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
URM will only help for Pepperdine, not the UC’s or Cal States but low income and First Gen will definitely help your chances. You have a good story to tell in your UC essays so definitely emphasize these circumstances. You look good for all the schools on your list except for UCSC which may be a slight reach with your GPA. If possible raise that GPA a bit. The Cal States only use your CSU GPA and SAT Math + CR for admission consideration so the higher the GPA/ SAT, the better. Good luck.
You’ve done great so far and have many exciting opportunities ahead… Stay focused on your future and try not to be distracted by your environment.
As usual, @gumbymom has it correct.
Good luck
