Will competitive colleges look down on me if I quit orchestra my junior year to pursue my violin outside of class. I love playing my violin and I love the people, but I remember everyday feeling bad when going to class because the teachers didn’t make it fun for me. Violin is something I live doing but not something I would do professionally. I might audition for region orchestra and if I don’t make that I’d probably go to a music school after school.
No
No, but I would suggest that you don’t use the teachers as an excuse for dropping it anywhere in your application. If for any reason you feel compelled to expain (you won’t be obligated to), say you were overscheduled, you had a scheduling conflict, you wanted to try something different, or you decided to pursue better opportunities outside of school - whatever best fits the rest of your narrative.
No. Don’t give a reason (certainly not ‘teachers’) and continue the violin in any venue of your choice.
My D had to drop music because of academic course conflicts but since she continued outside of school and in ECs it didn’t matter.
Agree with not alluding to any teacher blame on you common app.
