Will dropping AP Enviromental Science damage my chances for college.

I am a Broward Virtual School student (a franchise of FLVS). I thought that I should take AP Environmental Science but I am currently in an add/drop period (meaning dropping wont show up on my transcript). My teacher is amazing, but the course is awful. The exams are absurdly difficult and the assignments are tedious. I was looking at my assignments for this week and one was collecting an entire garbage bag of garbage from my community’s streets. Another one required me to write a massive essay about the Tragedy of the Commons and then mail it to my senator. I was looking through reviews and it seems to me the course is wildly hated for FLVS.

I was thinking of dropping the course to instead take Earth Space Science, as I have already taken Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Marine Science. My school does offer AP Biology. but I despised Biology when I took it and my parents don’t approve of taking it (since it almost ruined my 4.0 gpa). And I would rather not take it either. Without AP Environmental Science I will be taking:
AP Literature and Composition
AP Statistics
Earth Space Science Honors
AP Government, followed by Personal Finance (I already took Macroeconomics & Micro is not offered next semester).
Theater, Cinema, and Film Production (Fine Arts requirement).

Is this strong enough for college? I plan on applying to The University of Southern California, University of Miami, University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Central Florida. and the University of North Florida. I am also worried about financial aid as I want it to be affordable. I plan on going to college for Business and then I want to try to start a career in acting. Thank you for any help.

What are the requirements for your Colleges of interest?
For Business or Acting, you are fine with 3 years of science. You could take Earth Science…but is it usually considered a 9th grade science or do other students take it? Are there any other elective sciences (e.g., Marine science)?
One thing I caution you…you seem to be more worried about a 4.0 than challenging yourself. College is going to be much more challenging. AP Env Science is considered the easiest of the AP sciences…will you have to take science in college? If so, will you be prepared?
Are you prepared for math? You will need to take Business Calculus and Stats most likely…are you prepared for Calc?

  1. I meet all the requirements for my colleges. I have 4 credits already (Biology, Marine Science, Physics, and Chemistry).
  2. Yes, Earth Space Science is a 9th-grade course. I’m considering maybe taking an AP that isn’t a science instead but I’m not sure how that would look for colleges. I’m planning on talking to my counselor about taking AP Psychology instead. Do you see any potential issues with that?
  3. Yeah, I am quite worried about keeping my 4.0. I don’t mind challenging myself but straight A’s is something my parents expect from me. In college, I won’t have to worry about getting into college, so my parents have assured me that I don’t need to get a perfect GPA in college, just enough to keep my scholarship/aid/spot in school.
  4. AP Environmental Science may be the easiest but it’s either that or AP Biology, which I would really rather avoid. If my school offered any AP Physics I would gladly take it.
  5. I’ve taken pre-calculus so I feel at least a bit prepared for college Calculus. And I’m hoping AP Statistics helps me with college Statistics.
