My son is considering early decision Emory university, but concern whether financial aid will be less than regular decision, since he will have to go if admitted. Any insight is welcome, thank you.
Emory will meet your full demonstrated need (as calculated by EMORY) whether you apply early decision vs. regular decision. If you are referring to merit scholarships, they are highly competitive and you should NOT apply ED if you would require one to attend. Run the financial aid calculators on the website, but keep in mind that they are ESTIMATES, not guarantees of aid.
If your aid package is inadequate, it may be possible to appeal or back out of the ED commitment if admitted, though you should confirm with the Admissions website to be sure.
Hope that helps!
Financial aid is the same regardless of when you apply. It’s based on a formula that looks at your income, savings, etc. The agreement you sign stipulates that you can back out if the FA package is not adequate. Run the NPC, we found it to be quite accurate.
