Will going to a liberal arts put me at disadvantage for business school admissions?

EDIT: TALKING ABOUT GRADUATE BUSINESS SCHOOL
My dream has been to go to Yale ever since I visited it through a QuestBridge. Obviously I didnt get in (I had a 26 on ACT, what was i thinking?) and really wish I could transfer (which is unlikely due to 2% acceptance rate and how terrible I am at standardized tests like ACT and SAT).
I'm going to a "little ivy" which i was very lucky to get accepted to so I feel that I will have the foundation to go to a good graduate school.

Even if my college is so highly ranked, will it put me at a disadvantage for business school?

Another question is, why is Yale ranked so low in business school rankings?

Which “little Ivy”?

Some of them are very good for b-school admissions (Williams, Amherst, Middlebury, Bowdoin)

Most of the others aren’t great “names” for b-school admissions, but if you get a kickass GPA and do meaningful internships, you can still get in to Yale or whatever school.

^And Swarthmore and Claremont

My impression is that Colgate and Washington & Lee are quite good as well.

One of the knowledgeable posters on CC (gellino) has said in the past that some of the other northeastern LACs (Trinity, Hamilton, Haverford, Bucknell, Wesleyan, Colby, etc.) have decent business placement. As it’s not my field, I can’t verify that.

I have relatives who attended Bates and Williams and had offers at multiple top MBA programs including Stanford, Wharton and Tuck (Dartmouth). Neither applied to Yale. Both ended up at the Harvard Business School.

The ones that you listed do have decent b-school placement… just not as good as the ones I listed in my post

I am going to Hamilton.
Would I be at a disadvantage?
Why?
What can i do to improve my chances?

Also, can someone explain why Yale is ranked so low in business rankings?

You’ll be at a disadvantage as opposed to kids who went to the Ivies, AWSBMP (the top lacs), and the other top 20 schools…

That being said, it is, as others mentioned VERY VERY doable. You just don’t have an advantage

Well, it would be much better chance than going to University of Kentucky, correct? So in those terms, I would have an advantage since going to Hamilton is much more prestigious than going to University of Kentucky.

Thanks for the response.
As long as its doable, I am happy.

Prestige won’t mean much, so forget about what school you go to. The location probably means more, because your internship opportunities may be limited to what companies are around your school and will take on interns.

In regards to what you should do to improve your chances, getting solid internships should be a primary concern, along with any other leadership opportunities you can take advantage of. Keep your grades as high as possible. Study hard for the GMAT (scores are only good for 5 years so plan to take it at a time when you know the scores will still be active for applications).

Get to know your professors really well so that you have strong letters of recommendation if you try to apply to grad school right out of undergrad. If you don’t get in right out of undergrad, get stellar work experience for at least 2 years. Many times strong work experience can offset poor GPA or other considerations. Get in good with your managers so that you can have excellent letters of recommendation from them, too, since professor recs won’t mean much after working a few years.

Tons of Haverford alumni are currently at top 15 b-schools. From my year, I know 2 at Stanford, one at Michigan, one at Columbia, one at NYU and that’s only the few that I know entered last year. Swatties and Mawrters are also going to top programs. Go Tri-Co!

Yale is ranked number 10 in [Best Business School Rankings | MBA Program Rankings | US News](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-business-schools/mba-rankings)
I don’t think that’s low. All of the top 20 schools are great.
