I submitted FAFSA in January using estimated figures from 2011 taxes. Was given EFC. Today I updated FAFSA with actual 2012 tax information and our EFC has risen by approx $3,500. Having already received financial aid packages from all D's schools (9) should I presume that they will send out new package with less aid offered?? I should note, her top choice school used IDOC and they had received all our correct tax information, W2's etc before we received their offer. Just because our EFC is now higher, are they still in a position to change her award? It was barely doable before; it will break her heart if they decrease it further.

You will have to wait and see. You could call the schools where IDOC was used to see if all of the info was received prior to the financial aid award being compiled.

In 2006 when our daughter was an entering freshman, our income increased by about the same amount. Some schools changed her aid and some did not.

The biggest issue might be if you qualified for Pell with the old EFC and not (as much) with the new EFC. Your updated EFC will automatically change your federal aid eligibility. If your package depended on that, you will probably see a change. If it’s all institutional aid, hopefully they used your real IDOC numbers and not the incorrect FAFSA numbers, and you’ll be ok. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

The only federal aid we qualified for were the two Stafford loans (subsidized and unsubsidized); the rest was institutional (including college loan). She did however receive FWS - would that be affected do you think?

FWS and the subsidized nature of some of the loans could be impacted.
