For the first two years of high school, I struggled in school and virtually had no interest in trying. Now, I’m going to be a junior in the fall and I have one pending question. Assuming I get all A’s my junior and senior year and perfect scores on my sat, would it be possible to get into Harvard even if I slacked for the first two years?
Unlikely but who knows? And there are so many great colleges and universities out there and I don’t think it is wise or even healthy to focus on one hyper-competitive school.
Harvard is a reach for everyone, including applicants with perfect GPA and test scores. All you can do is apply and hope for the best and have other schools as backups.
I know that the T word is banned now but, please, we need to stop feeding these increasingly propagating idiot single post posts here.
Yeah, just take the Red Line to Harvard Square.
Unless you have the gift of prognostication, I don’t know how you can even say that.
Extremely doubtful
No, you won’t.
Harvard has too many applicants to choose from that did NOT slack off the first two years. Find another college and go to Harvard for grad school.
You would have to have some pretty amazing quality/hook to pull that one off.
it depends, by not trying are you one of those humble brags that mean that they got a whole 4 A-'s as their lowest grade
There are a lot more factors than just grades and SAT score. Consider your extracurriculars and things. However grades are very important in college admission and many 4.0 students do not make the cut to Harvard.
I still doubt this is a serious post…
For the first two years, I seriously believed that I couldn’t even make it to college, so I stopped trying in school. Now, I’ve learned some things about myself and those around me which made me believe that I can still do it. Of course, I know I can still get into a good university, but I would like to know what my chances at Harvard are like. I do volunteer at my community and have been active in my church for as long as I can remember.
Hmm. Not sure this is a serious question. I will give it to you straight though just in case you are a real person with a real question here. NO, you will not be admitted to Harvard unless you invent something that changes the world or have some outlier quality that is well beyond the norm. Not sure why someone would go from not even seriously thinking about college at all to aiming for Harvard (hence my skepticism about your sincerity), but you should aim much lower. Elite colleges are not for everyone, and they aren’t for students who slacked off their first two years and have yet to show excellent progress as a junior.
^Agreed. I recommend saving the application fee and applying to some less selective schools. The competition is very stiff, and poor grades in your first two years (e.g. mostly C/D/Fs) can be a quick reason for rejection.
Then again, we don’t really know your status or how much you slacked off. If you got A-'s and B’s without trying, that’s a different story.
