I’m planning on applying to IU bloomington for fall 2021. I was just wondering if my stats were good enough.
GPA: 3.81
ACT: 26 (superscored)
Extracurriculars: Black belt in Taekwondo, Certificats for singing and playing the keyboard (these were obtained in a different country though because I lived there before), 60+ volunteer hours, Science National Honors Society and a few other clubs.
I also wanted to apply as a Biology major, I’ve heard that is pretty competitive. Does the major you choose have any effect on your chances of getting in?
Are you in-state? If so, it’s a match school. If not, it’s a reach.
Yes I am in state. What does a match school mean
A match school is a school that you are likely to get into. AKA schools where you fit into the “average” of applicants.
I think you’ll get in. For your ACT - is math and science higher than english? If things get better you could try it again. . Are your science course grades high? Will you take AP Bio?
You will also need safety schools - those would be IUPUI, Ball State, Indiana State, University of Southern IN to name a few. Apply to a couple of those just in case.
What are your long term career goals? What do you want to do with biology?
My english score was 1 point higher than math and science. My science grades are mostly all A’s and A-'s. I did take honors bio freshman year and did pretty well.
I want to be a doctor, hopefully I get into IU’s medical school but thats quite far in the future.
I know IU accepts a lot of kids from my school especially considering the curriculum is pretty difficult. Do you thing that plays a role?
