I think you’re a good candidate for basically all those schools you listed, but (I know this personal) do you really want to pay $40,000 a year for four years at a place like NYU or BU? I would suggest for you just to go to a public school and then go to a really amazing university like Harvard, COlumbia, NYU, etc for med school. I mean, I doubt that you’ll want to be 200K in debt for just undergrad (which means nothing these days) and then have to go to medical school for four years, which is even more expensive. Plus, you have to do residency after that, etc, etc.

I do not know your financial situation or how much your family saved up, but I it is so much better to go to a public university (where you will be one of the top students and save lots of money) and then later to one of the best private universities for med school. I know several people who did that and now, they are getting any jobs in their respected medical fields at any hospitals they want. For medicine, all that really matters is where you went for medical school, so it doesn’t make sense for you to stress out over going to a top-notch university for your bachelors.

Once again, that’s just my thought. I think that you have a good chance at all of those schools.

Good luck in college, in med school, and in becoming a Cardiothoracic Surgeon!

davincifan-I’m not capable of chancing you, but I’ll ask what SCHOOL within NYU, to help other chancers out. CAS?

ak1991 - more like $58,000 ish per year (and will probably go up each of the next 4 years also).

davincifan - agree with ak1991. Don’t know your situation, but DO consider your financial output for undergrad, if you’re looking for professional school afterward. $55,000 ish x 4 years’ debit is a bad foundation on which to lay another $75,000 (?) x 3.

yeah, that is a good point. I just want to go to a reputable school just incase i change my career path. (which I think I won’t but you never know.) I know that it’s really expensive, however, hopefully with financial aid (my mom makes very little money) I will get by. Also, after residency and internship and practice, as a cardiothoracic surgeon, I should make pretty good money. It’s good to know that I will be able to pay it off eventually.

and yes, I applied to CAS

I think you have a good shot at NYU. Yes, going to a better school might increase your chances in your future career, but if you know that you’re going to med school right after undergrad, then there is no point in going to such an expensive school for undergrad. I think it’s good that you’re aiming high, but you should not stress over NYU because you always have the opportunity to go there for med school.

Yes, you will be able to pay it off but it is after “residency and internship and practice.” It take years and it’s hard enough as it is. Imagine how hard it would be when you have a bunch of money to pay off just for an undergraduate degree. It doesn’t make much sense. And NYU does not give such good scholarships or financial aid.

I suggest for you to just go to a public university where you can get tons of scholarhips and financial aid. Later on, go to a top notch school like Harvard, COlumbia, NYU, etc. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that NYU has two medical schools–NYU Medical School and Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
