Will I be re-accepted to a college after going to community college for 2 years?

I’m struggling since I got accepetd into a college i wished to go to and i followed the steps in the letter and have been admitted already. However,I changed my mind and I want to attend a community college first due to cost.If i attend community college than transfer to the college I want to go to will I get accepted again.

@Angel_Sundah none of us has a crystal ball.

But I will say…if cost is a factor, attending a community college to save money isn’t a bad idea.

Fact is….you might think of a different college to attend to get your bachelors when the time comes.

Hm I’m just wondering if I do go to community college, will it decrease my chances of being accepted again the second time or if i’m even allowed to apply the second time after being admitted and rejecting it.

As long as you do well at the community college, I think that they would probably allow the transfer. But you should look into what transfer agreements the community college has in place. Most community colleges have transfer agreements with 4 yr schools (usually state colleges, sometimes flagship state U’s) that will automatically take you, as long as you meet a certain easily attainable GPA.

After attending a community college, you will make new transfer applications to four year colleges that you want to transfer to. It does not matter whether you previously made frosh applications to them while in high school.

Maybe. It isn’t an automatic “we took you before so you’re a shoo-in”. Given that you’re planning on attending a CC you might want to consider writing a letter to the college explaining that due to financial issues you are going to attend a CC first and ask if they have any advice about steps you might take at the CC in order to facilitate a future transfer.

You might get accepted, but the financial aid can be very different. Transfer students don’t generally get much aid. So even if you’re accepted it won’t be with the same financial aid package. Need based federal and state grants will be included, but merit based grants that are offered to freshmen won’t. Before you decide where to apply find out what kind of aid the schools offer to transfer students.

Check with the 4year college you want to attend whether they accept community college credits and how are they accepted. Here in NJ there’s an agreement with cc and all public and most private (not Princeton) to transfer cc credits in whole if you take the correct course at the cc. Meaning you can come in as a junior. Many universities don’t accept all your credits in whole for instance BIO 101 might be a requirement to be taken at the uni and they will not accept your BIO 101 from cc but will count it as an elective. Also, depending on your major there could be a sequence of required courses you can only take at the uni and at a specific time of year. So you’re still on the hook for up to 4 years to complete your major. Some majors flat out don’t accept transfers at all. Research your options directly with the university and go from there. Good luck

I agree - it really depends on your target school and that merit aid is also much more scarce for transfers . i’d contact your target school (before leaving your school) and see how open to transfers they are.

To answer your question, it is no. It would not be either an advantage or disadvantage to you applying two years later as a transfer. Unless you actually matriculated at the college there will not be any record your earlier acceptance
