Will i be wasting my EA?

<p>Hello there</p>

<p>I would be really grateful if you could give me your frank opinion on whether i stand a chance in the EA pool.</p>

<p>I'm an Asian international as well</p>

<p>My stats.</p>

<p>Objective</p>

<p>SAT I - 2180 CR-750, M-790, W-640 (11/12) - probably retaking it due to W. </p>

<p>SAT II - 2390 PHY-800, CHEM-800, M2-790</p>

<p>Unweighed GPA - No idea. (should be perfect? since i got an A for all my subjects )</p>

<p>Rank - 5/800? (not too sure since my school doesnt do formal ranking)</p>

<p>Course Loads - A'level Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Economics, GP - AAAA/A</p>

<p>Major Awards - National youth achievement award -gold. National Economic and finance management quiz - Distinction</p>

<p>Subjective</p>

<p>1st in Under 20 category for a Marathon 2012 despite tearing my meniscus. was 5th in 2011 - crafted my own training program and other awards related to track</p>

<p>Chairman of organising committee for school green week</p>

<p>Chairman of organising committee for school community project (involved 2000 people)</p>

<p>Panel member on a national organisation that decides on funding for youth projects as well as mentor ship duties for those that are approved.</p>

<p>Did facilitation for national conferences - national youth, climate change conferences etc.</p>

<p>Extracurriculars - Track and field, represented school in nationals. 5th for 1500m under 20.
more slow twitch than fast twitch sigh.</p>

<p>Platinum award from school for community service. totalled 500+ hours in past 6 years.</p>

<p>Hooks : First gen. if that helps.</p>

<p>i think harvard would be a stretch for you… unfortunately…
if there’s nowhere else you really want to go in the states, then might as well go for it though!</p>

<p>Unless you’ve got 3 or so schools you’re really into. I would still apply EA. Especially if Harvard has always been your dream. 60 Years from now, you’ll look back and wonder what would have happened if you simply applied EA. </p>

<p>I’m not a Harvard Student, but you still have epic stats. Keep in mind that 2180 is in the range for 25th to 75th percentile for SAT scores. and in the top 99% percentile overall. Be proud of your stats! And make sure you really work on your essays!</p>

<p>Even with perfect stats, Harvard isn’t a slam dunk for anyone. The reality is that last year Harvard rejected or deferred 82% of EA applicants, many of them I imagine had equal or greater stats than yours. So, only an admissions director can tell you if you would be “wasting” your EA. Bottom line: If you want Harvard, go for it.</p>

<p>If you want/need an early acceptance from a US college, I would suggest that you apply EA to a broader range of non-binding schools, such as MIT, UChicago, Georgetown etc. In that way, the probability of having at least one acceptance from your EA applications will be greater. Then apply to Harvard RD.</p>

<p>Hey guys, I’m stuck in a similar dilemma, and wondering if i should do EA. I mean i think i will end up EAing to Harvard anyway, but just wanted some thoughts on it. I know my extracurriculars arent too fancy, but im just hoping my essay will bump me up . </p>

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Church praise team leader for 5 years, student gov at church(4 years), SEcretary+VP+Pres for non-profit org where we read/analyze shakespeare and do community service(10 years) , missions trips (bible study leader and praise leader), School ASB (senior class secretary),played in benefits concerts to raise money for north korean refugees, Global Leadership Institute free math tutor service tutor and secretary, CSF (2 years), praise leader and server at LOVE LA a homeless ministry in skid row, school christian club praise leader one year, been in club 3 years, school basketball team
Job/Work Experience:independent tutoring
Volunteer/Community service: church praise, homeless ministry, missions praise leader, GLI free tutor, non profit organization stuff
Summer Activities: just mission trips
Essays: pretty good…kinda unique, still need to polish it up
Teacher Recommendation: havent gotten them yet, will be math and history teachers, both like me a lot
Counselor Rec: idk, probably generic

<p>These chance threads are ridiculous. Someone with perfect stats will get rejected from schools like Harvard. Take risk man! Go ahead and apply EA and who knows you may have a friend that day!</p>

<p>To Egodicity: how can you improve your chances? An international w/2180 is what strikes me. Get US citizenship and/or knock out 2300+ in your SAT retake, to be frank. But truthfully, you’re a great candidate for an awesome school somewhere. Not very likely HYPS</p>
