So I graduated high school in 2013 and right out of high school, my gpa wasn’t good enough to attend a big university so I decided to attend my local community college and then transfer. So I went to this CC and fall semester of 2014 I got a full time job so I didn’t attend classes at all. One year later in 2015 at 21 years old I transferred to Auburn university. Almost 2 years later, I just turned 23 and I’m going to be a senior and I’m seriously self conscious about my age and I feel like I’m not going to fit in. I want to enjoy my last year while I’m here but I feel like I’m not going to fit in with everyone else because most are older than me and frankly I feel like I’m the only senior who’s 23. Does anyone have any words of encouragement? Do you think being 23 and a senior is wierd?
23 is an incredibly normal age to be a senior in college. No one will think twice of it.
This is literally a complete non-issue. There are PLENTY of 23 year old seniors. I had friends who were in their late 20s (28/29ish) senior year and they’re still some of my closest friends. Also, once you’re in college, “so how old are you?” isn’t a question anyone asks at all. I really hope you can stop stressing about this before the semester starts because it is not even worth thinking about.
The OP is concern that he will be one of the younger seniors on campus, not the other way around. Is it that most Auburn University students take more than 4/6 years to graduate?
As long as you aren’t living in a freshman dorm, you’ll be fine.
I think it’s completely fine. There are people in my year who are 28-30 and even as old as 40. My first chem lab partner was a 30 year old army veteran (but then I got paired with another student, different story). There was another veteran in my writing class. No issues there. Don’t worry about it and there’ll probably be seniors who just as old as you are.
Most seniors in college are 21 to 22. Besides, unless you go around announcing your age, no one will have any idea of your age by looking at you. It will be a whole different story if you are in your 30’s.
