Will I get accepted to SDSU??

I’m currently a junior in high school and at that point where I’m starting to freak out I won’t get into any colleges.
I’m not particularly involved in any sports nor I’m involve in a lot of clubs but

I’m thinking of applying to San Diego State University as my first choice and Cal State Fullerton as my second.
Other colleges I’m thinking about are CS Long Beach / Polytech Pomona / UC Irvine / UC Riverside.
I just need anyone’s opinion. Do you think I’ll be accepted?? Do I have a good chance??

– actually gonna join more clubs next year

I’m gonna start volunteering at the library and church over summer and next school year. Maybe get a job while at it?
I have about 80 hrs of community service

I’m really concern about not getting into my first choice. Please give me your honest opinion if you think I’ll get accepted. and yes, I do live in Southern California. I heard I have a better chance if I do live here…

Cal states are only interested in your CSU GPA and ACT/SAT scores. They use the eligibility index to rank applicants in each major and will accept from the highest until all spots are filled. For SDSU, you want an EI of 1000+ for ACT or 4100+ for SAT. Your EI is 1008/4140 based on posted Stats which puts in the running for an acceptance. Much will depend upon your intended major and the stats from next years applicants. CSUF/CSULB/CPP are good Matches. You have a good shot at UCR but UCI will be difficult with your low test scores. I would consider retesting and getting those scores up a bit just to seal the deal. Also do not join more clubs. Focus on the ones you are currently in and continue with your leadership position. Work on your UC essays this summer and make them shine.

Hi there, I’m a senior this year and I got accepted into SDSU, CSULB, CSUF, SJSU, UCR, and UC Merced. In my opinion I’m pretty sure that you will get into those colleges like I did. My GPA was also 3.99 in my junior year. I took AP Physics, and Vietnamese 4 H and those were the only two weighted classes that I took in my junior year. My SAT was around 1500 too and also ACT is 22. I was involved in 2 clubs at my school, I was on board for one of the club in my junior year. I’m currently taking AP Calculus AB, AP Civics/Econ H, AP Psychology as my weighted classes for my senior year. My essay was decent too!
Anyways, I think you will have a really high chance of getting into those colleges or even UCI! I got rejected from them lol. I was debating over SDSU or CSULB because they both are great for my major. However, I chose LB because of money issue.
Don’t stress out too much! You will be fine! Just finish your junior year strong! (:

You’ll sail into all the schools you list except UCI. For them, you’ll need to get your SAT up to 1800+ range to be competitive.

Nice work and good luck.

Thank you for all the replies! I was really starting to get worried but I guess I actually have hope

@Gumbymom I’m actually thinking of majoring in Computer Science / International Business. Do you happen to know if that’ll make it harder for me to get accepted?

You can only pick one major when applying, so you need to choose between CS or International Business. When you go for orientation, you can then speak with an advisor that will help you in formulating a class schedule that would incorporate both majors. Just a warning, you may need to stay an extra year or two to double major, since CS and business have very few overlapping classes. My younger son is a CS major at SDSU and was planning on getting a business minor but it may require an extra year for his undergrad, so at the moment he is trying to take a few business classes as electives and see how things go. STEM and business majors are some of the more competitive majors at SDSU so since you have a 4140 EI, you are competitive but I would still retake either ACT and SAT to increase your chances. Also CS is very math heavy, so if you plan to become a CS major, you need to do well in your Math classes. If you pass AP Calc AB/BC and feel confident with your math skills, you an opt out of Cal 1/2 and jump right into Stats and Discrete Math your Freshman year. This will free up some time for business classes. My son got credit for Calc 1/2 and started with Discrete Math fall sememster. If you have any questions, just PM about the CS program. Good Luck.
