@lilysmith. Your SAt scores are ok but slightly below the Penn average (1500-new SAT). your GPA is ok but below the Penn average ( 3.93 last year) . You are still within the feasible range for admission for Penn ( including Wharton) and your double legacy status will help. Just make sure you apply ED to maximize the legacy benefit.
Obviously you will not be amongst the most competitive applicants at Penn, but I will not be surprised if you end up getting in. I don’t agree with people above saying you definitely can’t get in. Legacy can help a lot if you apply ED. Also if you are applying to SEAS or Wharton as a female then you are in a way a minority so that could help too.
Lilysmith: You have an outside chance if you apply ED and have a very strong application. Your grades and scores are similar to my son who is a SEAS freshman. But your ECs seem pretty mundane and unfocused. The key for my son was that his EC (technical theater with set/lighting design and construction) was pretty unique and done at a very high level, and he was able to show his passion for it and also connect it with the engineering program in his essay. Penn doesn’t want to see a bunch of different activities; they want to see focus and following your passion at the top level. My son didn’t have any other ECs because the one took all his extra time, but he made the most of the one activity. Junior year may be a bit too late, but my advice is to find the one activity that you enjoy the most and do everything you can to take it to the next level that sets you apart from all other applicants. Then you use your essays to show how that dedication and passion will contribute to the Penn community, both in and out of the classroom. Good luck!
I’m surprised people are saying it’s unlikely you’ll get in… Double legacy definitely helps. It’s helped many of my friends with lower stats than yours. I guess the main thing is your EC’s, only because you don’t have too much national/state recognition (ex: publishing a research paper, starting a business, etc)-- Ivies like when you do something new, rather than just placing in national competitions. However I wouldn’t be surprised if you got in tho
