Will I get into stanford

As you can tell Stanford is my dream college. My chances are slim I can tell - my grades are not up to par but I would like an honest opinion.

Location: Australia
FA Needed: YES. Probably can pay $30k AUD a year.

Year 8 Grades: Straight A’s
Year 9 Grades: Straight A’s
Year 10 Grades: Straight A’s

I’m currently in Year 11, things have taken a turn. Remember that our ATAR subjects (max 6) are equivalent to first year university subjects. I study all the time but my grades just aren’t up to par (still would place me in top 6%). For background info, ATAR is calculated based off your top 4 subjects, however, given that I failed two subjects, colleges would probably view this negatively.

Year 11 Subjects (Currently mid-year):
Accounting and Finance: 80% (A)
Economics: 75% (A)
Maths Applications: 85% (A)
English: 75% (A)
Chemistry: 48% (D)
Maths Methods: 52% (C/D)

ATAR is calculated from top for subjects so my estimated ATAR is 94.35, placing me in the top 5.65%. How would colleges view my failed subjects though?

Extra Curriculars:
I’m into entrepreneurship and startups.

Year 9: Did nothing apart from random tennis lessons. Wasn’t into entrepreneurship yet.
Year 10:

  • Co-founded and was COO of Scrimbox (upcoming startup) till June. Stopped to work on Comblie.
  • Comblie, April 2015 - December 2015. Had a remote team and everything but the social network APIs changed.
  • Briefly COO of Arlix Technologies which is a teen tech company.
  • Mocktrials team. (few clubs at school)

Year 11 (Current):

  • Co-founded digital agency, although thats not really going anywhere so I’ve stopped operations.
  • Board Member and Director of Expansion in Australia for SecondGen which is a an organisation for youth entrepreneurship. My roles include expanding SecondGen clubs throughout schools in Australia, hosting events, and growing the youth in entrepreneurship community.
  • Side project: TheStartupLife - a snapchat where we get popular startup founders to takeover the account for a day.
  • I also buy a lot of apps and monetise them, made like $10k in a month - not sure if this counts as an extracurricular?
  • Work remotely for a NYC social media startup. This is a paid job. 15 hours a week.
  • PerthStartups which is a Slack page for entrepreneurs in Perth. Organise meetups and record podcasts.

  • I'm also really interested in fashion so my friend and I have started an online fashion magazine (similar to Vogue but for a different audience) - it hasn't launched yet.

SAT/ACT: On my previous posts I said I could remember and from memory it was around 2300. I just checked and horrified it was actually 2150

SAT IIs: Haven’t taken. Will probably do Math I and Chemistry. Or I might not take them at all since evidently those aren’t my strong subjects.

As you can tell I’m not a competitive applicant. I used to think I was until I wrote this out. I would really appreciate your chances for the following schools:

Stanford
Harvard
UC Berkeley
NYU
Columbia
UPenn
Boston College
Princeton
Yale
USC
UCLA

Major: Communications/ Public Relations/ Marketing - anything along those lines.

Your D’s will make it very challenging to get into a good college. I don’t understand why you can only pay $30,000 when you make $10,000 a month.

But my ATAR is really good?

Um, it’s business. You don’t just make $10k a month, its like the share market. @deaston

You should shoot for Syracuse, Missouri, Northwestern etc and retake the D’s over the summer so they are off your transcript

Lot of business experience on this site. When you say you make $10,000/month without clarifiers you will get that response. Do you mean $10k in revenue? What is you net profit? What do you mean market share? Market share is the percentage of the market that you have, not a dollar amount.

Those D/C’s eliminate most of those schools for you, if not all!

top schools look at academic performance. Reset your goals.
