Thanks

Slam-dunk.

Two comments:

1) Research the Honors program carefully, IMO it doesn’t stack up that well against many other schools, and offers no benefits in terms of preferential class registration, preferential housing, etc.

2) IIRC something like 20% of students are in the Honors program, I think there’s a conclusion to be drawn there, but I’ll let you connect the dots for yourself.

Don’t get me wrong, I think UMass is a great school.

Also, why would you want to kill yourself with engineering if you plan on being a dentist? The engineering curriculum (as it is at most if not all engineering schools) is very structured and rigid. And hard. Example, it will be very difficult/near impossible to study abroad if you have an interest in that.

Maybe not a slam dunk. I know someone with similar stats and did not get into Commonwealth. They take 300 freshman.

Where did you get this number from?

The web site says that there are over 3000 students in ComCol:

[Commonwealth College: About Us](http://www.comcol.umass.edu/aboutus/index.html)

You can also join later if your GPA is high enough.

From what I’ve discovered, the hard qualifications for the honors college is a 3.7 weighted average, 1350 (out of 1600) on your SATs (I’m not totally sure about this one) and being in the top 10% of your graduating class.

Then again, I hit the first two marks (my school doesn’t do class rank) and I didn’t get in. I got the board to reconsider my admission as an honors student in freshman year. If not, I can always try next year.

The standards are getting harder for acceptance to CC.
