Due to the pandemic i only got to take my Sat once and got a 950, I have 96 average in school, with all honors and a couple AP classes, I’m in 10 clubs including National Honors Society , and im President of Student council, pretty much what i’m saying is i have great grades and a lot of extracurriculars, is this SAT score gonna hold me back from my dream school due to me only being able to take this once ?
Not applying (or know much about UCF) but don’t submit that score if you can go test-optional. If you have to submit, I think you might be okay because of your high stats and they understand that many people couldn’t take tests.
First of all, WELCOME to CC, Carley!
To your question, I think a truthful answer is that nobody knows how schools are going to handle the issues with SAT/ACT this year.
Although scores don’t typically improve much from test to test, this has certainly NOT been a typical year. I have not heard anything about how UCF will be handling your “one and done” problem, but it’s an issue that affects thousands of students. I think they have to do something…but who knows what?
I have a couple of suggestions:
First, if they still use an essay (my daughter is a freshman now), be sure to use it.
Don’t just emphasize your EC stuff, but also discuss how you overcame the challenges of a Senior Year during Covid and how you will use that experience at UCF. Also emphasize leadership, as opposed to membership. As Student Body President, you personally did some things that made things better for your fellow students and your school. DO NOT BE SHY about those achievments.
I’d also specifically mention your SAT problem, but say you overcame that, excelled, and led despite that one setback – and you’ll do the same at UCF (which you will!).
The other suggestion I have is to realize that there are alternatives, and many of them are not bad choices.
As far as the acceptance is concerned, you will probably receive an answer that is either accepted for Fall, waitlisted, accepted for Summer 2021, or denied. I think it’s unlikely that you would be denied purely on the basis of your one SAT score.
If you get accepted for Fall, congratulations.
If you get accepted for Summer 2021, jump at that opportunity!
All summer acceptance means is that you are required to take ONE online course during Summer B. You will be required to take 9 hours during the summer at some point prior to graduation anyway, so Summer acceptance is nothing more than a great early start.
If you get waitlisted, don’t despair. A ton of students apply to UF and FSU with UCF as a second or third choice. If they get accepted, they decline UCF and spots open up for waitlisted students. Waitlisted is not a NO; it means “We want you, and will accept you if we have room.”
Again, welcome to CC and Good Luck!
