Will I have enough time?

Hi everyone, I hope you can give me an idea to face my problem.
I'm from Argentina, and I'm about to graduate as an Electrical Engineer in about two moths. I'd like to do a MSc. Therefore, i've started preparing the GRE, but as I do not have so much free time, i've only been writing four essays a week....just to get started. I think i'll take the GRE the last week of November if I'm lucky....The big question is, is there enough time to: a)Take the GRE and TOEFL and b)Apply before deadlines?
If I want to start September/2013 i should apply before december...but if i don't make it, does it mean i will have to wait for an entire year and start the MSc on 2014??

Thanks!

To make it more simple…If I take the GRE in January or February 2013, does it mean i would have to apply to start on September 2014?

It depends on the deadline of your program. In my case, the deadline of my program was December 15 (2007). I took the GRE on November 13 that year, and my scores were in in enough time to get admitted to the program and begin in September 2008.

If you have program deadlines in March 2013 or later, you could take the GRE in January or February 2013 and still apply to start in September 2013. But if your programs’ deadlines are generally in December or January, you would either have to take it before November 2012 OR you would have to wait until December 2013 to apply for September 2014.

I didn’t know that i will also need tome for scoresto get in. Therefore, if i end up taking the gre the 4th week of november or the 1st on of december, it might not be enoguh? I may sound that i don’t have too many chances for 2013, what do you think?

Do you know when your application deadlines are? If they’re in December, those dates would be cutting it too close. Score submission may even take longer depending on the country, I would imagine. Some programs may have Jan 1st or 15th deadlines, and a few might even be beyond that.

i haven’t chosen the programs yet…I still don’t know which programs i should aim for…i still have more questions than answers i think…
My main question is if i would have to wait until 2014 if i take the gre January/February 2013 regardless the program i choose…isn’t there any “second semester” or something like that?

One more thing…would it be better if i don’t rush things, wait one more year and get some research experience at my unversity or some work experience? Would it increase my chances to get accepted at some programs that I may not be accepted today??

Gaining research experience would absolutely help your chances. And it sounds like studying a while longer for the GRE will help you out as well. If you don’t need to rush, don’t.

Would the research experience help even though I do it as a graduate student? Don’t they care about undergraduate research more?

One more thing…Here in my university, it is a 6 years program and no one, not even the birthests ones are able to finish it in 6 years…the average it is 7,or 7.5. I’m in that average, so,i’m 25 and if i take that extra year, when i apply to start in september 2014 i’ll be 26 and when i start the postgrad…i’ll be 27!. It does not seem right to start a postgrad at that age, does it??

Many students do not attend graduate school immediately after earning their bachelor’s degree, so it is not uncommon to encounter people of different ages (i.e. late 20s or early 30s) with vastly different life experiences. As long as you don’t mind starting graduate school at 27, then it really shouldn’t matter. Side note: do you attend UBA? If so, I was/am under the impression that it was/is perfectly normal for students to take extra time. (When I studied abroad, I took a seminar at UBA filosof

I’m starting grad school in a few weeks and will be 27 later this year.

Narratologist, i’m not living in Buenos Aires. I hope you enjoyed your time here!

Great then, that’s good to read virions! Then i’ll calm down and gain research or job experience.
