Will I have enough transfer credits?

Hi everyone, I’m looking to transfer into Rice, Cornell, Northwestern, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, USC, Vanderbilt, Duke, Barnard, and Dartmouth.

I’m a current freshman in college and I’ll be applying as a rising sophomore. Right now, I’m taking 5 classes (20 semester credits), but I might drop Calc 3 if I do bad on the midterm (I’m hoping not to which is why I’m studying like my life depends on it). I’ve visited transfer sections of admissions websites before, and I’m super confused. Like Northwestern’s website says: “To be eligible to enroll at Northwestern as a transfer student, you must have completed one full academic year (24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours) at a postsecondary institution. You must also be in good standing at your most recent institution.” I will either have 16 or 20 credits at the end of THIS semester, and will probably complete another 16 credits the next semester (spring 2017). Does this mean I will have enough credits to be eligible as a transfer?

Yes. You understand correctly. If you earn 16 credits this semester and will be completing 16 credits next semester, you will meet the requirement of having 24 or more semester hours at the time of transfer. The school will understand that some of those credits are in-progress when you actually apply. They are used to that.

Good luck.
