Will Indicating "Will Take Gap Year" Hurt Chances?

Hi! Will indicating "Will Take Gap Year" on the common app hurt your chances? I'm planning to take a gap year if I'm accepted into a college this year and on telling that college after being admitted. Looking at the deadlines, this seems to be fine, but I was just wondering if I should just say so on the common app instead.

I don't want to seem insincere by leaving that box unchecked since I'm mostly likely going to take a gap year, but I also would like to know if there is ever a disadvantage for indicating so.

My reasons are purely medical; I was very sick this year and I would benefit from a year to focus on my health.

I appreciate any sound advice! Thank you beforehand. :)

No one? :frowning: Does anyone know if telling a college “I will take a gap year” hurts your chances?

I would wait until you are accepted and then decide if you will for sure take a gap year. You may change your mind in 6 months when everyone is excited for college.
