I’m currently finishing 7th grade. I’ve been thinking about taking the March SAT next year, as my Math and English will be at the same level as a high school sophomore(I’ll be taking Geometry and Honors LAC II next year, both 10th grade courses), to see where I’m at and then take it again in a few years. And should I take the ACT’s at all or not?
It’s not going to hurt you but honestly there is no true necessity. You’re in middle school. It’s great to see you are advanced (if you want to do some informal practice tests, the PSAT, or the PLAN, go for it) but seriously, get off of here.
You can take it for a Talent Search like CTY. Normally, an 8th grade SAT wouldn’t show up when you send scores at the end of high school.
The SAT is changing in March 2016. You would be taking the first of the new tests, so you’d be a guinea pig basically. The new SAT may gradually become easier or harder after the first few test dates. Scores for that first test will be delayed until May, because the want to use at least the scores from 2 test dates to norm the scores for the new test. (Don’t try to take the old SAT for sending to colleges for the Class of 2020; by that point, they are unlikely to accept it.)
I think you should totally go for it if you are serious about it. I made the mistake of not taking it earlier in middle school and now I am taking it late in the summer of my freshman year. I think it’ll be great practice of you study for it beforehand. I’m not too sure if you should take SAT so soon because of the new format and everything and ACT at the same time. Take it one at a time if you want to do both. I definitely recommend taking ACT asap because of my past and present experiences and mistakes.
You can take a timed analyzed mock SAT or ACT every weekend on Kaplan’s site. I would try that first. No need to take the real test yet.
The SAT is changing next year. What’s the point?
I would take the ACT, S took it in 7th through Northwestern talent search, skipped 8th (was sick) , then 10th and 11th. He didn’t study for the 7th and 10th, but studied for the 11th. It reduced his anxiety, increased familiarity and he was able to improve his score 8 pts between 7th and 10th, and 3 additional pts in 11th to a 36C . There is nothing like taking the real test.
Taking it in middle school is no pressure, just fun. He was a bit anxious because he was in a class of mostly high schoolers. I was able to wait for him at the testing site thanks to some friendly proctors.
I’d skip the SAT until the format is finalized.
